Instructional Student Assistant (Learning Specialist) for The Kegley Center for Student Success

The Kegley Center for Student Success is seeking applicants to fill the Instructional Student Assistant position.

Position Overview: CSUB Athletics Academic Support is looking for dynamic, enthusiastic, instructional student assistant learning specialists who have a passion for teaching, mentoring, and leading.

CSUB Athletics ISA-LS's will work with our Scholar-Athletes during required, scheduled, 1-on-1 supplemental instruction in all subjects, but with a concentration on Lower-Division General Education courses. Learning Specialists differentiate from traditional ISA's in that they are responsible for providing a holistic approach to scholar-athlete learning that not only facilitates content understanding, but also motivation, time management, communication skills, study skills, initiative, & integrity. While subject expertise is a plus, it is not a requirement as the Learning Specialist's main goal is Teaching Students how to Learn.

Requirements:

• Must be a CSUB student (currently enrolled at least 1/2 time).
• Must have skills and abilities to perform job functions.
• Must have a 3.25 cumulative or above.
• Must be classified as a Junior or higher.
• Must have initiative, integrity, empathy, patience, and creativity.
• Must have a passion for and experience with diverse groups including but not limited to racial and ethnic minorities, International students, English language Learners, LGBTQ populations, first-generation college students, and students with disabilities.
• Must be willing to comply with CSUB's Academic Integrity Requirements and all NCAA Staff Regulations.
• Must be able to work 20 hours per week.
• Tutoring or Teaching Experience Required.

Instructional Student Assistant additional information regarding assignment:

• Evaluation:  ISAs may be evaluated per CBA, Unit 11, Article 8 (https://www.calstate.edu/csu-system/faculty-staff/labor-and-employee-relations/Pages/unit11-uaw.aspx)
• Salary: The salary range for Instructional Student Assistants starts at $17.86 per hour.  Each Department has a different salary scale.  Please check with your department for your Base Salary.
• Assignments: Assignments are made by Department Chair or Program Coordinator after consultation with the candidate.
• Duties Form: Per the Collective Bargaining Agreement for Unit 11 (https://www.calstate.edu/csu-system/faculty-staff/labor-and-employee-relations/Pages/unit11-uaw.aspx) a Duties Form (see Appendix E of the CBA) will be completed between the Department and Academic Student Employee.  This form substantiates the jobs included for the department Instructional Student Assistant position. 
• Instructional Student Assistant positions are for matriculated students at CSUB.
• Students are limited to 20-hours of part-time work on campus.
