Position Description

Job Overview

Professional who applies advanced budgeting job skills, detailed knowledge of budgeting policies and procedures, project management skills, and organizational and stakeholder acumen, to complete substantive assignments, projects, and related work of significant technical scope and complexity. Exercises advanced discernment and indepth knowledge of budgeting best practices, university guidelines, and standard operating procedures to perform complex budget analysis work and provide consultation and training to campus constituents. May require the development of new approaches, techniques, and innovation to address issues. Works with stakeholders to ensure proper implementation of programs by utilizing persuasion.

Reporting to the Sr Director, University Budget Office (UBO), this position functions as a UBO contact for campus budget shared services operations, which include business functions that provide common services, processes, reporting, and operational support across multiple units. This position will interact with both leadership and support staff, in addition to receiving work direction and coordination of financial data and budget processes. Functions include periodic budget reporting to leadership, ongoing financial analysis of fiscal results, recurring budget development, cost recovery analysis, and financial forecasting, in addition to assistance with miscellaneous ad-hoc analysis to support campus leadership decisions. This position will regularly interact with both managers and staff to understand operations in these areas and gain insight into future initiatives. The nature of this work is predominantly more complex and responsible and requires greater in-depth analysis. Apply thorough knowledge of financial, budgetary, and accounting principles and practices. This position will also function as a key financial partner for strategy development and long-term planning.

The Budget Analyst, Shared Services Operations communicates operating results to UBO, Business and Financial Services (BFS) and the Vice President of Finance and Administrative Services (VP FAS) and in turn keeps campus stakeholders updated on UBO budget communications and processes. Also provides training for associated staff and managers as needed in various areas, including Data Warehouse and Axiom for internal planning processes. This position also assists with position management and tracking of all personnel for the unit and coordinates with unit managers in completion of all HR, payroll, and other budget related financial actions.

This is a full-time, exempt position, which will lead toward permanent status following the successful completion of a probationary period.

Pay, Benefits, and Work Schedule

Anticipated Hiring Salary Range: $7,307 - $7,909 per month (step 12-16)

CSU Classification Salary Range: $5,877 - $8,561 per month

Salary is commensurate with the background and experience of the individual selected.

This position is eligible for a broad range of benefits, including medical, dental, vision, life and disability insurances, retirement (CalPERS), tuition waiver, vacation and sick leave. In addition, 15 paid holidays are offered each year; 14 scheduled on specific days and a Personal Holiday that may be taken any time during the year.
