| Working under the supervision of a physician laboratory director or higher-level Clinical Laboratory Scientist, the Clinical Laboratory Scientist I (CLS I) is a licensed professional responsible for performing a wide variety of moderate to highly complex clinical laboratory tests and examinations. The CLS I provides medical staff with essential laboratory data for the prevention, diagnosis, and treatment of illness and disease within the university setting.
Assignments typically include diagnostic testing ordered by licensed practitioners (e.g., urinalysis, pregnancy tests, blood tests, antibiotic sensitivity tests), specimen collection and preparation, interpretation of test outcomes, calibration and maintenance of equipment, and quality assurance in compliance with state and federal regulations, including the Clinical Laboratory Improvement Amendments (CLIA). |
