Under the general direction of the Associate Director for Admissions, the Residency Coordinator independently leads the University’s residency determination process and oversees the administration of tuition exemption programs, including AB 540, military exemptions, and the Western Undergraduate Exchange (WUE) tuition discount. The incumbent provides in depth guidance to applicants to assist them with residency determinations, student-focused customer service and staff leadership by demonstrating effective listening, availability and timely responses to all inquiries. The Residency Coordinator serves as the campus authority on complex residency and exemption cases, ensures compliance with CSU policy and state law, interprets evolving regulations, and recommends program enhancements. The role includes expert-level advisement to applicants and continuing students, training staff and student assistants, and coordinating with systemwide offices such as the CSU Chancellor’s Office and Office of General Counsel. This position provides these services to a caseload of EXCEL students. The EXCEL Counselor resolves complex and/or sensitive problems for students that affect their ability to be successful in their educational and career pursuits and make appropriate referrals to campus services and other resources.
