About the Position: 

Capital Programs and Facilities Management (CPFM) is committed to planning, developing, and maintaining a safe, sustainable, and high-quality learning and working environment for the campus community. Facilities Management provides oversight of university resources and assets and is responsible for the development of the University’s facilities including land use planning, capital improvement, project development, construction, as well as facilities operations and maintenance including custodial services, landscape services, building trade services, mechanical and electrical, and recycling services. We are seeking an exceptional individual to join our Building Service Engineers team as the Building Service Engineer. The ideal candidate in this role should have a positive attitude and an active, energetic mind that is characterized by highly ethical practices and a commitment to diversity, openness, flexibility, integrity, and kindness. 

Under the supervision of the Supervising Building Service Engineer and/or Lead Building Service Engineer the Building Service Engineer: Operates, maintains, services, troubleshoots, repairs, and inspects the mechanical equipment and components related to the Central Plant including the trigeneration plant absorption chillers and turbine. Operates, maintains, services, installs, troubleshoots, repairs and inspects a full range of heating, ventilation, air conditioning, refrigeration, mechanical, and related systems and components throughout the campus facilities. This is a key position which cares for campus buildings and systems to support the University's mission, vision, and values in higher education. Interacts with a diverse group of individuals. Works well in a team environment and understands the balance of sharing duties, taking ownership, and will take the initiative to complete tasks as needed. Takes pride in every aspect of their work to create and maintain an excellent learning environment at Cal State University Fullerton. Essential Qualifications

Two years of journey-level experience in the operation, maintenance, and repair of boiler, heating, ventilating, refrigeration, and air conditioning equipment and systems or the equivalent combination of formal course work in mechanical technology and hands-on experience. Thorough knowledge of high and low pressure boilers, as well as heating, pneumatic, ventilating, air conditioning, refrigeration, and other mechanical equipment. Thorough knowledge of the methods, tools, and materials used in the operation, maintenance, and repair of such equipment. General knowledge of ventilation principles, thermal dynamics, and closed water systems. Working knowledge of energy management systems including the ability to understand and use system features.  Ability to install, operate, and repair HVAC equipment and systems. Demonstrated  high degree of mechanical skill equivalent to journey-level in one or more related trades such as plumbing, pipe fitting, electrical or air conditioning. Ability to read, interpret, and work from blueprints, plans, drawings, and specifications. Ability to make rough sketches and estimate costs, time, and materials required for mechanical work. Ability ty to maintain records and retrieve data related to work performed using manual and/or computerized record-keeping systems. Ability to prepare standard reports, provide instruction to unskilled and semi-skilled assistants, and analyze and respond appropriately to emergency situations. Ability ty to read and write at a level appropriate to the position and perform arithmetic calculations as required by the position. 

A background check (including a criminal records check) must be completed satisfactorily and is required for employment. CSU will make a conditional offer of employment, which may be rescinded if the background check reveals disqualifying information, and/or it is discovered that the candidate knowingly withheld or falsified information. Failure to satisfactorily complete the background check may affect the continued employment of a current CSU employee who was conditionally offered the position.

Preferred Qualifications

Experience with Andover lnfiniti EMS and BMS. Experience with turbine generators. Experience with absorption chillers. Experience with PLC Logic controls. Training in asbestos removal and asbestos safety. Knowledge of building systems in large facilities.


Valid California driver’s license.
