About the Position: 

Capital Programs and Facilities Management (CPFM) is committed to planning, developing, and maintaining a safe, sustainable, and high-quality learning and working environment for the campus community. Facilities Management provides oversight of university resources and assets and is responsible for the development of the University’s facilities including land use planning, capital improvement, project development, and construction, as well as facilities operations and maintenance including custodial services, landscape services, building trade services, mechanical and electrical, and recycling services. We are seeking an exceptional individual to join our Associate Vice President Facilities Management team as the Lead Locksmith. The ideal candidate in this role should have a positive attitude and an active, energetic mind that is characterized by highly ethical practices and a commitment to diversity, openness, flexibility, integrity, and kindness.

Under the general supervision of the Building Trades Manager for Capital Programs and Facilities Management (CPFM), or their designee, the Lead Locksmith plans, designs, and has oversight of the implementation and maintenance of a campus-wide electronic master lock and electronic key program, will plan, schedule and assign work, determine material, equipment and staffing needs for projects, will monitor work in progress and inspect work to ensure it meets quality requirements and specifications. Demonstrates a methodical and organized approach to completing work assignments, involving a high level of safety awareness. This position is highly safety conscious and disciplined in proper systems and devices. Offers excellent customer service and is always courteous of student, faculty, staff, and staff customers. An employee best suited for this role is one who is defined by their dedication to the quality of their work, dependability, and reliability.

Cares for campus safety and security to support the University’s mission, vision, and values in higher education. Interacts with a diverse group of individuals and serves as the campus expert on all matters pertaining to electronic locks. Works well in a team environment and understands the balance of sharing duties, takes ownership, and takes the initiative to complete tasks as needed in a timely and safe manner. Essential Qualifications

In addition to the knowledge required of the Locksmith, the Lead Locksmith must possess a comprehensive knowledge of master key systems and a working knowledge of effective supervisory practices and techniques.  In addition to the abilities required of the Locksmith, the Lead Locksmith must be able to develop and implement a master key system; lead, instruct and coordinate the work of a small group or crew of skilled and semi-skilled assistants; determine staffing, material and equipment needs; estimate costs for new locking systems or for replacement systems; analyze and respond appropriately to emergency situations; and maintain more complex manual and/or computerized record-keeping systems. In addition to the experience required of the Locksmith, the abilities of a Lead Locksmith normally would be acquired through two or more years of experience as a journey-level locksmith that included lead work coordination responsibilities and training in master key systems.

A background check (including a criminal records check) must be completed satisfactorily and is required for employment. CSU will make a conditional offer of employment, which may be rescinded if the background check reveals disqualifying information, and/or it is discovered that the candidate knowingly withheld or falsified information. Failure to complete the background check satisfactorily may affect the continued employment of a current CSU employee who was conditionally offered the position.  

Preferred Qualifications

Previous experience in a lead locksmith position for a large facility.

Ability to instruct and coordinate the work of a small group or crew of skilled assistants. Knowledge of innovative locksmith-related systems.

Excellent customer service and interpersonal skills.

Ability to understand and follow verbal instructions and communicate with co-workers and directions, work with customers, and direct the work of others.

License/Certifications

A Valid California Class "C" Driver's License.

This report contains the current security and safety-related policy statements, emergency preparedness and evacuation information, crime prevention and sexual assault prevention information, and drug and alcohol prevention programming. The ASR also contains statistics of Clery Act crimes for California State University, Fullerton for the last three (3) calendar years.
