About the Position: 

The Department of Administration and Finance Information Technology provides technical support to the Divisions of Administration and Finance. Services provided include the development, implementation, production support and maintenance of systems that service the campus community. We seek an exceptional individual to join our team as the Operating Systems Analyst - Career. The ideal candidate in this role should have a positive attitude and an active, energetic mind characterized by highly ethical practices and a commitment to diversity, openness, flexibility, integrity, and kindness.

Under the general supervision of the Director of Administration Systems, the Operating Systems Analyst is part of a team dedicated to providing effective IT business solutions for the Division of Administration and Finance through exceptional customer service and technical expertise. This position is responsible for maintaining servers, including specialized hardware, software, and applications; building technology and other systems; and implementing/installing software systems.

Works relatively independently as well as in a team and utilizes effective written and verbal communication skills. Provides daily end­ user support in responding to employees needing immediate technical assistance. The Analyst will utilize their technical judgment, creativity, and innovation to troubleshoot hardware and software issues, assist users with automation problems, and fulfill job responsibilities as needed. The Analyst demonstrates initiative and is motivated to prevent and anticipate problems in different Administration and Finance systems, such as Building Management Systems, Energy Management Systems, Lighting systems, CCTV systems, and University Police Dispatch systems, and will bring potential issues to management's attention.

The Operating Systems Analyst coordinates projects with various functional departments to ensure timelines and scope of work are satisfied. Organize and develop plans, schedules, and requirements for project implementation. Works with vendors to set up data conversion and installation. Coordinates training with vendor(s) and users.

As a member of the Administrative Systems team, supports efforts in building and supporting an inclusive work environment. Will contribute towards ensuring diversity, equity, and inclusion are incorporated in department operations, programs, and services. Other duties as assigned.

Essential Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree from an accredited four-year college or university in Computer Science, Computer Information Systems, Information Systems, Engineering or a related field PLUS two years of relevant full-time experience or the equivalent part-time experience. Eight years of relevant full-time experience may be substituted for the previously listed education and experience requirement. Functional knowledge of the specialty area demonstrated by an understanding and use of advanced principles and theories. Ability to integrate work related knowledge to address problems. Demonstrated competency in applying standard and non-standard technology applications and exploring and adapting changing technology. Ability to independently apply technical judgment, recognize problems, use reasoning and logic to establish possible causes, interpret and apply theories and principles, generate alternative solutions, and implement a plan of action for the best resolution. Ability to develop solutions where precedents do not always exist. Ability to be proactive, anticipate outcomes, and consequences of different approaches and make modifications to action plans. Ability to utilize reflective listening skills when working with others and interpret and communicate information. Assists others in completing assignments and provides work direction and training to others on new skills and procedures. Ability to plan and work on shared projects. Strong troubleshooting skills to respond to hardware and software problems. Possession of excellent written and oral communication skills. Excellent customer service skills with the ability to communicate technical knowledge to functional units.

A background check (including a criminal records check) must be completed satisfactorily and is required for employment. CSU will make a conditional offer of employment, which may be rescinded if the background check reveals disqualifying information, and/or it is discovered that the candidate knowingly withheld or falsified information. Failure to complete the background check satisfactorily may affect the continued employment of a current CSU employee who was conditionally offered the position.  

Preferred Qualifications

Strong interpersonal skills, ability to interact with a variety of individuals ranging from unskilled users to highly skilled staff and management. Experience in installation, configuration, and administration of Microsoft Windows Server 2016 and above, Windows 10, Microsoft SQL server, and Veritas backup software. Experience installing and maintaining large third-party systems. Have strong troubleshooting skills to respond to hardware/software problems. Good communication skills, both written and oral, with users of various technical knowledge with functional units. Good customer service.

License/Certifications

A valid California driver's license. The position requires the use of a state vehicle.

This report contains the current security and safety-related policy statements, emergency preparedness and evacuation information, crime prevention and sexual assault prevention information, and drug and alcohol prevention programming. The ASR also contains statistics of Clery Act crimes for California State University, Fullerton for the last three (3) calendar years. Paper copies are available upon request at the CSUF Police Department.
