About the Position: 

University Outreach serves prospective and incoming students, and any other interested parties in the information seeking and application process, as it relates to the California State University system and Cal State Fullerton specifically. Our office provides campus tours, informational workshops, new and transfer student orientations and general information. We seek an exceptional individual to join our team as the Transfer Assistant (Student Services Professional I). The ideal candidate in this role should have a positive attitude and an active, energetic mind characterized by highly ethical practices and a commitment to diversity, openness, flexibility, integrity, and kindness.

Under the general direction of the Director of Outreach, Recruitment, and Orientation the Transfer Specialist will perform basic professional student services work characterized by continuing assignments in which the primary work processes and tasks assigned follow well established work procedures. Transfer Specialists are responsible for providing a wide variety of professional services and activities ranging from preadmission to the university through post-graduation. The purpose of these services and activities is to assist students in making successful progress toward their degree objectives; to provide learning experiences which supplement those in the classroom; and to assist and encourage students to effectively utilize the knowledge, skills and abilities learned during their university careers. Assist with Coordination of Transfer Peer Advisor Program. Represent university at Transfer Events, Experience CSUF, Titan Welcome Weekend and other yield events. Disseminate information related to outreach, recruitment, and orientation programming. Other duties as assigned.

Essential Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree or the equivalent from an accredited four-year college or university in one of the behavioral sciences, public administration, business administration or other job-related field. Specialized and relevant experience may be substituted for the required education on a year-for-year basis.

Working knowledge of the basic principles of individual and group behavior, as well as research and observation techniques for the purpose of recording, classifying, and interpreting factual information. Foundational knowledge of the techniques and methods of interviewing. Ability to gather and analyze data. Ability to reason logically, draw valid conclusions, and make appropriate recommendations. Ability to participate in and contribute to group meetings, conferences, and interviews. Ability to clearly express ideas and make recommendations. Ability to write clear and concise reports. Ability to establish and maintain cooperative working relationships.

A background check (including a criminal records check) must be completed satisfactorily and is required for employment. CSU will make a conditional offer of employment, which may be rescinded if the background check reveals disqualifying information, and/or it is discovered that the candidate knowingly withheld or falsified information. Failure to complete the background check satisfactorily may affect the continued employment of a current CSU employee who was conditionally offered the position.  

Preferred Qualifications

Experience working with transfer students in a college or university setting. Strong commitment to and understanding of diversity and inclusion in a higher education setting with experience working with and assisting students from under-represented populations. Exceptional oral and written communication skills, as well as strong organizational skills and follow-through. A clear understanding of, or the ability to understand, higher education issues and nuances. A commitment to excellence and to providing a high degree of customer service with campus partners and off campus constituents. A vibrant personality that is comfortable working collaboratively as a member of a team in a high-volume, fast-paced, highly visible environment is essential.

Pursuant to the Jeanne Clery Disclosure of Campus Security Policy and Campus Crime Statistics Act, the current Annual Security Report (ASR) is available for viewing at: https://hr.fullerton.edu/risk-management/clery-act/. This report contains the current security and safety-related policy statements, emergency preparedness and evacuation information, crime prevention and sexual assault prevention information, and drug and alcohol prevention programming. The ASR also contains statistics of Clery Act crimes for California State University, Fullerton for the last three (3) calendar years. Paper copies are available upon request at the CSUF Police Department.

 

Notice of Availability of the Annual Fire Safety Report (AFSR)
In addition, pursuant to the Higher Education Opportunity Act, the AFSR is also available at https://hr.fullerton.edu/risk-management/clery-act/. The purpose of this report is to disclose statistics for fires that occurred within California State University, Fullerton housing facilities for the last three (3) calendar years, and to distribute fire safety policies and procedures intended to promote safety on campus.
