About the Position:
University Outreach serves prospective and incoming students, and any other interested parties in the information seeking and application process, as it relates to the California State University system and Cal State Fullerton specifically. Our office provides campus tours, informational workshops, new and transfer student orientations and general information. We seek an exceptional individual to join our team as the Assistant Director of Outreach, Recruitment, and Orientation (Student Services Professional IV). The ideal candidate in this role should have a positive attitude and an active, energetic mind characterized by highly ethical practices and a commitment to diversity, openness, flexibility, integrity, and kindness.
The Assistant Director of Outreach, Recruitment, and Orientation (Student Services Professional IV) assists the director with oversight and management of the department, specifically the Transfer Services unit. Provides leadership for the design and coordination of ongoing outreach and transfer support programs for community and campus partners, prospective and incoming transfer students, and their families. Leads planning and implementation efforts for outreach events, transfer student welcome programs, and virtual and on-campus services that support transfer student success. Oversees the development and implementation of event logistics and transfer-focused initiatives. Serves as lead for the department coordinators. Leads the recruitment, development, implementation, and assessment of student staff, including transfer peer mentors and campus tour guides. Works extensively in conjunction with a variety of on- and off-campus partners to deliver high-impact outreach, yield, and transfer student success initiatives for a wide range of constituents. Develops and disseminates a comprehensive communication plan to share department and transfer services information with both internal and external partners. Designs and delivers outreach and transfer services trainings to campus collaborators and members of the department team. Manages the collection and analysis of data, including program and educational outcomes assessments, evaluations, and statistical analyses related to transfer student services. Provides leadership in the development and management of technology-related projects within the department. Provides staffing for outreach and special events. Develops programs to increase accessibility for transfer program participants in relation to language, ability, and other needs. Serves as a lead for professional, para-professional, and student employees. Other duties as assigned.

Essential Qualifications
|
Bachelor’s degree or the equivalent from an accredited four-year college or university in a related field plus upper division or graduate course work in counseling techniques, interviewing, and conflict resolution. Four years of professional student services work experience including experience advising students individually and in groups, as well as the analysis and resolution of complex student services problems. A master’s degree from an accredited college or university in counseling, clinical psychology, social work or a job-related field may be substituted for one year of professional experience. A Doctoral degree from an accredited college or university and the appropriate internship or clinical training in a relevant field may be substituted for two years of professional experience.
General knowledge of the problems and methods of public administration, including organizational, personnel, and fiscal management. Knowledge of advanced statistical and research methods. Ability to plan, develop, coordinate, supervise, and organize programs and activities. Ability to interact with a diverse student population, faculty, staff, and the public. Ability to analyze complex situations accurately and adopt effective courses of action. Ability to advise students individually and in groups on complex student-related matters. Ability to complete assignments without detailed instructions. Ability to establish and maintain cooperative working relationships with a variety of individuals. Excellent verbal and written communication skills, as well as the ability to acquire knowledge of campus procedures, activities and of the overall organization.
A background check (including a criminal records check) must be completed satisfactorily and is required for employment. CSU will make a conditional offer of employment, which may be rescinded if the background check reveals disqualifying information, and/or it is discovered that the candidate knowingly withheld or falsified information. Failure to complete the background check satisfactorily may affect the continued employment of a current CSU employee who was conditionally offered the position.

Preferred Qualifications
|
Master’s degree from an accredited college or university preferred. Strong understanding of student development theory and its application to transfer student success. Proficiency in using technology and data to inform program development, communication strategies, and student support services. Experience with community colleges, articulation agreements, or transfer advising platforms (e.g., ASSIST).
Three years of experience working in outreach and transfer services programs. Expert knowledge of transfer student needs and transition issues, including current best practices to support the development and delivery of educationally and philosophically sound transfer-focused initiatives. Strong understanding of computer technology and information systems, including websites, social media platforms, Cal State Apply, and transfer admissions processes. Working knowledge of a broad array of student services programs and university initiatives that support transfer student success. Familiarity with General Education requirements within the California State University system and how they relate to transfer pathways.
