About the Position: 

Cal State Fullerton University Extension (UE) collaborates with university departments and colleges on unique programs for students from the community and around the world. We are seeking an exceptional individual to join our team as the Marketing Communications Professional I. The ideal candidate in this role should have a positive attitude and an active, energetic mind characterized by highly ethical practices and a commitment to inclusivity, openness, flexibility, integrity, and kindness.

Under the general supervision of the Director of Marketing and Communications, the Marketing Communications Professional I will coordinate an array of writing and creative projects that support University Extension's programs and initiatives. Responsibilities include crafting and editing content for social media, blogs, videos, emails, talking points, scripts, interviews, media, public relations, outreach, signage, events, and the website. The role also involves conducting interviews and voiceovers, assisting with digital and print graphics, video editing, and outreach/event support. All activities should adhere to university guidelines, style, tone, grammar, and programmatic accuracy. Plays a key role in establishing best practices and style standards for communications targeting both internal and external audiences. Effective coordination of communication campaign planning is essential, incorporating innovative writing, social media, creative designs, photo, and video styles to enhance engagement and growth across digital platforms. Analyzes impact and makes approved enhancements to future marketing communications initiatives.

Assignments may be routine in nature and involve performing various duties related to executing university strategies. Follow standard practices and procedures, conducting analysis of alternative options and situations utilizing data from which answers can be readily obtained. Routinely engaging various stakeholders, the Marketing Communications Professional I will create and implement campaigns across various communication channels. Collaboration within the Marketing Communications team is frequent, involving the Director, project leads, and web developer. Work collaboratively with UE program leads and coordinators as requested. Other duties as assigned.

Essential Qualifications

Equivalent to a bachelor’s degree in a related field. Relevant education and/or experience which demonstrates acquired and successfully applied knowledge and abilities shown above may be substituted for the required education on a year-for-year basis. Under direct supervision, performs entry-level professional duties by utilizing basic concepts within the marketing and/or communications disciplines. Assists more advanced professionals. Performs less complex assignments following detailed and established procedures. Assignments are related to preparing and editing communication pieces, public affairs, media relations, marketing, and related research. The focus of the work is on implementing communication and related plans using pre-established concepts and specifications. Work is regularly reviewed for understanding of professional concepts and compliance with policies and procedures.

General knowledge of marketing, branding, and/or communications, and/or public relations. General knowledge of applicable copyright and other laws pertaining to written materials, news media and confidentiality. Ability to appropriately handle sensitive and confidential information. General knowledge and understanding of media outlets including print, television, and radio. Ability to work with the media for the coverage of events. Skill in following guidelines and providing input and feedback. Strong communication and interpersonal skills to work effectively in a diverse environment. Ability to analyze information and data and use reasoning to summarize into clear and succinct statements. Ability to work independently and as part of a team and build relationships with diverse stakeholders. Flexibility to adapt to changing priorities and deadlines. Organizational skills to plan, organize, and prioritize work. Computer skills to appropriately use technology and relevant software packages as required.

A background check (including a criminal records check) must be completed satisfactorily and is required for employment. CSU will make a conditional offer of employment, which may be rescinded if the background check reveals disqualifying information, and/or it is discovered that the candidate knowingly withheld or falsified information. Failure to complete the background check satisfactorily may affect the continued employment of a current CSU employee who was conditionally offered the position.  

Preferred Qualifications

A bachelor's degree from an accredited four-year college or university and/or the equivalent training and work experience, coupled with up to two years of relevant professional, technical, or internship experience in marketing, communications, public relations, business administration, branding, or research in higher education or related field, or equivalent combination of education and experience. Preferred experience includes working in higher education within a marketing and communication setting. Be data- and deadline-driven, with expertise in marketing communication and project coordination. Current computer knowledge and skills with Microsoft Office suite including Outlook, Excel, Word, Teams, and PowerPoint; Cloud-based project management solutions such as Bitrix24 or Smartsheet; website content management system such as OmniUpdate; file-sharing tools such as SharePoint, Dropbox, Google Drive and online communication tools such as Zoom and Teams. Excellent project and time management skills. Ability to coordinate, organize and plan multiple marketing communications work priorities simultaneously, while creating quality results under deadlines within budget constraints. Working knowledge utilizing Adobe Creative Cloud including InDesign, Illustrator, Photoshop, Acrobat DC, and Premiere Pro and Canva are a plus. Skilled at editing to produce clear and concise standard videos, graphics, and digital and print documents for internal and external publication. An understanding and an ability to apply CSUF infrastructure, policies, procedures, and branding guidelines is preferred. The ability to handle sensitive and confidential information and convert data into clear, accessible communications is essential. Proficiency in social media coordination is advantageous, including content creation using Adobe Creative Cloud or Canva, engagement through Sprout Social, and analysis via report creation and review. Strong creative writing skills are desired, with the ability to adhere to editorial standards and tailor content for diverse audiences across various formats, such as social media, blogs, storytelling, scriptwriting, website content, interviews, and advertising.

Pursuant to the Jeanne Clery Disclosure of Campus Security Policy and Campus Crime Statistics Act, the current Annual Security Report (ASR) is available for viewing at: https://hr.fullerton.edu/risk-management/clery-act/. This report contains the current security and safety-related policy statements, emergency preparedness and evacuation information, crime prevention and sexual assault prevention information, and drug and alcohol prevention programming. The ASR also contains statistics of Clery Act crimes for California State University, Fullerton for the last three (3) calendar years. Paper copies are available upon request at the CSUF Police Department.
