Work Schedule

Schedule will vary according to department needs. This is a temporary, hourly, intermittent, on-call position to end on or before June 30, 2027, with the possibility of renewal on an annual basis if funds and/or program needs exist. This is a non-benefited position.

Department

The School of Music within the Division of Academic Affairs has a mission to grow artistry, build community and advance distinction. These pillars are achieved by fostering an environment in which individual achievement and artistic expression thrive fully and equitably for our students. The School of Music offers a wide spectrum of degree programs and options with an overall emphasis in musical performance. We seek an exceptional individual to join our team as the Accompanist I. The ideal candidate in this role should have a positive attitude and an active, energetic mind characterized by highly ethical practices and a commitment to inclusivity, openness, flexibility, integrity, and kindness.

Duties and Responsibilities

Under general supervision of the Department Chair or designee, the Accompanist I provides musical accompaniment in support of instructional courses, rehearsals, auditions, juries, and performances. The Accompanist I performs primarily from written scores and supports faculty and students in academic and performance settings. Other duties as assigned.

Essential Qualifications

Special training or coursework that would facilitate composing and improvising music and/or coaching and accompanying. Previous experience which has led to a thorough familiarity with accompanying choral groups and soloists and coaching performing artists. Knowledge of the fundamentals of harmony, as well as skill in playing one or more musical instruments as an accompanist. Ability to select appropriate dance music. Ability to compose or improvise music, coach performing artists, and transcribe music from recordings.

A background check (including a criminal records check) must be completed satisfactorily and is required for employment. CSU will make a conditional offer of employment, which may be rescinded if the background check reveals disqualifying information, and/or it is discovered that the candidate knowingly withheld or falsified information. Failure to complete the background check satisfactorily may affect the continued employment of a current CSU employee who was conditionally offered the position.  

Preferred Qualifications

Demonstrated knowledge of music theory and harmonic structure, along with strong sight-reading ability to accurately interpret and perform from written scores. The position requires skill in accompanying vocalists, instrumentalists, and/or dancers in instructional and performance settings. The individual must be able to follow oral and written instructions effectively and work collaboratively with faculty, students, and staff within an academic environment to support instructional objectives.

This report contains the current security and safety-related policy statements, emergency preparedness and evacuation information, crime prevention and sexual assault prevention information, and drug and alcohol prevention programming. The ASR also contains statistics of Clery Act crimes for California State University, Fullerton for the last three (3) calendar years. Paper copies are available upon request at the CSUF Police Department.

Notice of Availability of the Annual Fire Safety Report (AFSR)
In addition, pursuant to the Higher Education Opportunity Act, the AFSR is also available at https://hr.fullerton.edu/risk-management/clery-act/. The purpose of this report is to disclose statistics for fires that occurred within California State University, Fullerton housing facilities for the last three (3) calendar years, and to distribute fire safety policies and procedures intended to promote safety on campus. A paper copy of the AFSR is available upon request by contacting the Housing Office located at The Housing & Residential Engagement Main Office.
