Facilities Management is committed to planning, developing, and maintaining a safe, sustainable, and high-quality learning and working environment for the campus community. Facilities Management provides oversight of university resources and assets and is responsible for the development of the University’s facilities including land use planning, capital improvement, project development, construction, as well as facilities operations and maintenance including custodial services, landscape services, building trade services, mechanical and electrical, and recycling services. We seek an exceptional individual to join our Carpenter Shop team as the Facilities Worker II. The ideal candidate in this role should have a positive attitude and an active, energetic mind characterized by highly ethical practices and a commitment to inclusivity, openness, flexibility, integrity, and kindness.

Duties and Responsibilities

Under the general supervision of Facilities Management, the Facilities Worker II independently performs a wide range of semi-skilled and basic skilled facilities and systems maintenance, repair, and preventive maintenance work at El Dorado Ranch, an off-campus California State University, Fullerton property. Takes ownership and pride in maintaining the overall condition, safety, and functionality of the property, structures, and infrastructure through proactive preventive maintenance, timely repairs, and continuous monitoring and inspection of facility conditions.

The Facilities Worker II analyzes and troubleshoots maintenance issues across multiple trades, performs necessary repairs within classification standards, and effectively escalates work requiring journey-level trades through clear, accurate, and timely communication. This position requires strong interpersonal and written communication skills, a positive and service-oriented attitude, and a highly proactive approach to anticipating facility needs. The Facilities Worker II regularly escorts vendors, service providers, and trades personnel on site and serves as a key point of coordination to ensure work is completed safely, efficiently, and in alignment with campus standards. In addition to working at El Dorado Ranch, the Facilities Worker II will work on campus performing similar work, as needed and scheduled. Performs other duties as assigned.

Essential Qualifications

A combination of experience and training that would normally be acquired through any combination of experience and training equivalent to three years of hands-on experience in general facilities and systems maintenance and repair, or comparable experience as a trades assistant or laborer with demonstrated proficiency in the required duties. Demonstrated semi-skilled and basic trade proficiency in multiple trade and maintenance tasks. Comprehensive knowledge of specific methods, practices, and tools related to facilities and systems maintenance and repair in areas such as plumbing, HVAC, electrical, carpentry, painting, and mechanical systems. Semi-skilled and basic skilled knowledge across multiple trades. General knowledge of applicable trade safety practices. Working knowledge of building codes. Basic knowledge of electrical theory and mechanical principles. Knowledge and ability to properly and safely use hand and power tools common in the construction trade. Basic working knowledge of building codes, OSHA safety standards, and safe work practices. Ability to follow standard written instructions and procedures; read and write at a level appropriate to the position; and perform simple arithmetic calculations as required by the position. Demonstrated ability to learn maintenance and repair functions. Ability to operate light-duty trucks, forklifts, and aerial work platforms is required. Ability to lift up to fifty pounds and perform heavy labor.

A background check (including a criminal records check) must be completed satisfactorily and is required for employment. CSU will make a conditional offer of employment, which may be rescinded if the background check reveals disqualifying information, and/or it is discovered that the candidate knowingly withheld or falsified information. Failure to complete the background check satisfactorily may affect the continued employment of a current CSU employee who was conditionally offered the position.  

Preferred Qualifications

Experience working independently at an off-campus or residential-type facility. Demonstrated ability to anticipate maintenance needs and proactively address issues. Strong customer-service orientation with a positive, solution-focused approach. Experience coordinating or escorting vendors, contractors, or service providers.

License/Certifications

A valid California driver’s license.
