Duties and Responsibilities |
The Associate Director of Operations provides leadership, oversight, and strategic direction for the Operations Team, which includes front office services, testing services, assistive technology, accessible instructional materials, and Deaf and Hard of Hearing (DHH) services. This role is responsible for ensuring the effective coordination and delivery of daily departmental operations that support equitable access for students with disabilities. The Associate Director supervises and guides professional and support staff within the Operations Team, including the Assistant Director of Testing, Assistive Technology Coordinator, Accessible Instructional Materials Specialist, DHH Coordinator, two Student Support Specialists (front office), and the Testing Support Specialist. They establish priorities, streamline workflows, and ensure consistency, efficiency, and compliance across operational areas. In collaboration with the Director, the Associate Director contributes to the development, implementation, and assessment of departmental goals, initiatives, and service delivery models. The role supports continuous improvement efforts through data-informed decision-making, program evaluation, and assessment of student and faculty experiences. The Associate Director plays a key role in managing testing operations, including planning for high-volume periods such as midterms and finals, and ensuring appropriate staffing, space utilization, and service quality. They also support departmental administrative functions, including coordination of hourly staff processes (e.g., ASL interpreter timesheets), operational logistics, and internal systems that sustain service delivery. This position represents Disability Support Services (DSS) in campus collaborations and committees as needed, and works closely with the Director on complex cases, compliance considerations, and operational problem-solving. The Associate Director also contributes to budget planning, resource allocation, and procurement processes related to operational needs. Through leadership of the Operations Team, this role advances DSS’s mission to provide inclusive, equitable, and student-centered services that promote access, retention, and student success. Essential Qualifications |
Bachelor's degree from an accredited four-year college or university in social science or related field. Three years of experience in a leadership position. Strong organization and problem-solving skills. Experience preparing, reporting, analyzing data, and creating strong reports. Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to work with and relate to various student and staff population. Demonstrated customer service skills and experience training and implementing these skills with staff. Self-motivated individual with a strong work ethic. Understanding of ethical issues related to students with disabilities and the ability to lead by example. Possesses computer skills necessary for word processing, presentations, spreadsheets, analysis software, internet, list serves, and electronic mail. Strong oral and written communication skills in order to write reports and communicate with staff, campus community, vendors, and other partners. A background check (including a criminal records check) must be completed satisfactorily and is required for employment. CSU will make a conditional offer of employment, which may be rescinded if the background check reveals disqualifying information, and/or it is discovered that the candidate knowingly withheld or falsified information. Failure to complete the background check satisfactorily may affect the continued employment of a current CSU employee who was conditionally offered the position. |

Preferred Qualifications |
Master's degree in higher education, counseling, vocational rehabilitation or related field. Five or more years of supervisory experience working with students with disabilities. |
