Department |
Capital Programs and Facilities Management (CPFM) within the Division of Administration and Finance is committed to planning, developing, and maintaining a safe, sustainable, and high-quality learning and working environment for the campus community. Facilities Management provides oversight of university resources and assets and is responsible for the development of the University’s facilities including land use planning, capital improvement, project development, construction, as well as facilities operations and maintenance including custodial services, landscape services, building trade services, mechanical and electrical, and recycling services. We seek an exceptional individual to join our Building Service Engineers team as the Building Service Engineer. Duties and Responsibilities |
Under the general supervision of the Mechanical Trades Operations Manager, or their designee, the Building Service Engineer will operate, maintain, service, troubleshoot, repair, and inspect the mechanical equipment and components related to the Central Plant, including the trigeneration plant, absorption chillers, and turbine. Operate, maintain, service, install, troubleshoot, repair, and inspect a full range of heating, ventilation, air conditioning, refrigeration, mechanical, and related systems and components throughout the campus facilities. |

Essential Qualifications |
Two years of journey-level experience in the operation, maintenance, and repair of boiler, heating, ventilating, refrigeration, and air conditioning equipment and systems, or the equivalent combination of formal coursework in mechanical technology and hands-on experience. Thorough knowledge of high- and low-pressure boilers, as well as heating, pneumatic, ventilating, air conditioning, refrigeration, and other mechanical equipment. Thorough knowledge of the methods, tools, and materials used in the operation, maintenance, and repair of such equipment. General knowledge of ventilation principles, thermal dynamics, and closed water systems. Working knowledge of energy management systems, including the ability to understand and use system features. Ability to install, operate, and repair HVAC equipment and systems. Demonstrated high degree of mechanical skill equivalent to journey-level in one or more related trades such as plumbing, pipe fitting, electrical or air conditioning. Ability to read, interpret, and work from blueprints, plans, drawings, and specifications. Ability to make rough sketches and estimate costs, time, and materials required for mechanical work. Ability ty to maintain records and retrieve data related to work performed using manual and/or computerized record-keeping systems. Ability to prepare standard reports, provide instruction to unskilled and semi-skilled assistants, and analyze and respond appropriately to emergency situations. Ability ty to read and write at a level appropriate to the position and perform arithmetic calculations as required by the position. A background check (including a criminal records check) must be completed satisfactorily and is required for employment. CSU will make a conditional offer of employment, which may be rescinded if the background check reveals disqualifying information, and/or it is discovered that the candidate knowingly withheld or falsified information. Failure to complete the background check satisfactorily may affect the continued employment of a current CSU employee who was conditionally offered the position. |

Preferred Qualifications |
Experience with Andover lnfiniti Energy Management Systems (EMS) and Building Management Systems (BMS). Experience with turbine generators, absorption chillers, and Programmable Logic Controller (PLC)-based control systems. Training in asbestos removal and asbestos safety. Knowledge of building systems in large facilities. |

A valid California driver’s license. |

Special Working Conditions |
Must maintain authorization to operate University vehicles as required. Ability to wear a respirator. The position will carry a master key. May be required to perform physically demanding work, including lifting, carrying, climbing, kneeling, bending, and prolonged standing or walking. May be required to work at heights, in confined spaces, outdoor environments and in wet, dirty, dusty, noisy conditions, and in areas containing asbestos-containing materials in accordance with established safety procedures and regulatory requirements. May be required to respond to emergency service calls or work adjusted schedules to support campus operations. |

Pursuant to the Jeanne Clery Disclosure of Campus Security Policy and Campus Crime Statistics Act, the current Annual Security Report (ASR) is available for viewing. This report contains the current security and safety-related policy statements, emergency preparedness and evacuation information, crime prevention and sexual assault prevention information, and drug and alcohol prevention programming. The ASR also contains statistics of Clery Act crimes for California State University, Fullerton for the last three (3) calendar years. Paper copies are available upon request at the CSUF Police Department.
Notice of Availability of the Annual Fire Safety Report (AFSR)
In addition, pursuant to the Higher Education Opportunity Act, the Annual Fire Safety Report (AFSR) is also available for viewing. The purpose of this report is to disclose statistics for fires that occurred within California State University, Fullerton housing facilities for the last three (3) calendar years, and to distribute fire safety policies and procedures intended to promote safety on campus. A paper copy of the AFSR is available upon request by contacting the Housing Office located at The Housing & Residential Engagement Main Office.
