Job Summary

The purpose of the Personal Trainer position is to provide personal fitness training and/or wellness coaching to members of the LifeFit Center.

The LifeFit Center Personal Trainers will assess, program, and implement fitness programming and/or wellness coaching for clients.  Personal trainers will maintain client communication, evaluate, and monitor client progress, and make recommendations on components of fitness and wellness programming related to client goals.

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide assessment, program design, and exercise instruction and wellness coaching for clients using evidence-based practices.
  • Supervise and educate clients.
  • Implement programming based on clients’ needs and goals.
  • Ensure the safety of all clients during exercise.
  • Maintain client schedules and communication about sessions.
  • Coordinate with LifeFit Director on acquisition and retention of clients.

Knowledge Skills and Abilities

Knowledge of the procedures and practices relating to providing support services. Knowledge of procedures and practices related to ordering, issue, and inventory. Ability to quickly learn the names, uses and care of common types of materials, supplies, and equipment used in the instructional program to which assigned. Ability to plan, organize, and follow a schedule of activities. Ability to learn to operate equipment and to make adjustments. Ability to maintain records and project needs.

Ability to communicate with an ethnically and culturally diverse campus community.  Ability to follow all university policies, procedures, and guidelines including but not limited to safety, civility, information security, and non-discrimination policies and procedures.  Ability to contribute to a positive university experience for each and every student, and assist in achieving the university's commitment to a "vision of excellence."

Education and Experience

• Equivalent to one year of experience performing support services for an instructional program and involving such activities as preparing, producing, dispensing, or storing materials, supplies, and equipment required.

Physical Summary

  • Medium work - Job involves lifting heavy-weight objects (20-40 pounds) and/or 20% - 40% of the job involves standing, squatting, kneeling, or walking. May require pushing or pulling objects within the weight limits.

Licenses / Certificates

• CPR/AED & First Aid Certification.

• Nationally Recognized & Accredited Fitness or Wellness Coaching Certification.

Compensation

The salary range for this classification is $20.58 to $27.09 per hour.

Time Base

Hourly/intermittent on call temporary position.  Successful candidates may be appointed for a few days and up to one (1) year depending on the assignment. Temporary assignments may expire prior to the ending date.
