Job Summary
This position manages the Strategic Communications department's Design and Digital Media Production unit. It provides overall direction for graphic design, photography, and video production. The role also manages the university's identity system and related standards. In collaboration with the Digital Development unit, it plans and develops user-centric, engaging, and brand-aligned online experience.
Key Responsibilities
- Creative concepting, art direction and design, illustration, and visual identity development: manage the Strategic Communications department's Design unit.
- Website design and user experience: Plan and develop user-centric, engaging, and brand-aligned online experiences.
- Photography/videography management: Manage photography and videography production and editing for all departmental responsibilities.
- Staff management: Hire, train, supervise, and evaluate staff members.
- Emergency communications: During major emergency events, report to campus to fulfill appropriate communications-related operations in concert with other staff positions in the department.
- Administrative tasks and other duties: Attend and participate in appropriate department, university, and CSU meetings.
Knowledge Skills and Abilities
Supervisory experience with the ability to manage professional staff working on multiple deadline-driven projects simultaneously while maintaining quality service, meeting deadlines, and meeting established goals of the department and division. Ability to generate strategic, innovative solutions for both project opportunities and challenges, initiating action without instruction, and establishing priorities and plans for the development of programs. Proficiency in Adobe Creative Suite and in web authoring tools to support HTML5/CSS3, PHP. familiarity with mobile interface development, usability standards. Familiarity with Apple Developer/Google Play, CSU web-accessibility standards, web content management systems (Drupal, WordPress); digital-publishing tools.
Ability to communicate with an ethnically and culturally diverse campus community. Ability to follow all university policies, procedures, and guidelines including but not limited to safety, civility, information security, and non-discrimination policies and procedures. Ability to contribute to a positive university experience for each and every student and assist in achieving the university's commitment to a "vision of excellence."
Education and Experience
- Bachelor's degree in a related field.
- Minimum of seven years of experience in graphic design for both print and digital applications.
Physical Summary
Light work - Job involves some lifting of medium weight objects (10-20 pounds) and/or 10% - 20% of the job involves standing or walking.

Compensation
Hiring Range: The hiring range for this position is $7,589 - $9,486 per month commensurate with candidate's education, experience, skills, and training.
CSU MPP Compensation Summary Range: The MPP Comp Summary Range for this position is $7,589 - $11,384 per month.
Salary placement is determined by the education, experience, and qualifications the candidate brings to the position, internal equity, and the hiring department’s fiscal resources.
