Job Summary

Provide professional services in psychiatry including psychiatric assessment, consultation, medication management, and referrals to CSULB students.

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide psychiatric assessment and medication management to students - Provide initial intake evaluations and follow-up for students referred to psychiatry. Formulation of appropriate ICD diagnosis, treatment plan, and disposition. Provide medication consultation and intervention as needed.
  • Provide consultation to CAPS staff, campus SHS providers, CSU faculty/ staff, as well as the public, both in-person and on the telephone.
  • Provide psychiatric consultation for the wide campus community.

Knowledge Skills and Abilities

Demonstrated ability to provide psychiatric services (clinical assessment, medication evaluation, crisis intervention, and psychiatric hospitalization). Demonstrated effective and safe medication management knowledge and protocols. Possess strong interpersonal skills, along with the ability to be professional and respectful. Excellent oral and written communication skills, including ability to make effective presentations, facilitate an open exchange of ideas, and write clear, concise notes, documents, and reports.

Ability to work as part of a team through close collaboration with colleagues and coordinate with others. Ability to establish and maintain cooperative working relationships and maintain a positive and respectful attitude. Ability to work effectively and productively as part of a team. Ability to collaborate in a multi-discipline mental health environment. Ability to consistently report to work on time prepared to perform the duties of the position, and to adhere to the time limits allotted for breaks/lunch hours. Working knowledge of standard safe work practices.

Ability to communicate with an ethnically and culturally diverse campus community. Ability to follow all university policies, procedures, and guidelines including but not limited to safety, civility, information security, and non-discrimination policies and procedures.  Ability to contribute to a positive university experience for each and every student and assist in achieving the university's commitment to a "vision of excellence."

Education and Experience

• Graduation from a medical school and completion of one or more residency programs and/or fellowships accredited by the Accreditation Council for Graduate Medical Education (ACGME) or equivalent in a specialty appropriate to the assigned specialty duties.

Licenses / Certificates

• Valid and relevant State of California license to practice medicine; current medical board certification appropriate for the assigned duties; valid DEA certificate and number for prescribing controlled substances; and current CPR/AED certification required.

• Current and valid Board Certified or Board Eligible in Psychiatry before commencement of the position.

• CA Driver's License preferred.

Employees who are required to operate motorized vehicles and/or use their personal vehicle more than once a month on university business are required to take a mandatory Defensive Driving course and enroll in the DMV Employee Pull Notice (EPN) Program.

This appointment is for an 11/12 pay-plan position. The incumbent works 11 months per year and is paid over 12 months.

Salary placement is determined by the education, experience, and qualifications the candidate brings to the position, internal equity, and the hiring department’s fiscal resources.

CSU Classification Salary Range: The CSU Classification Salary Range for this position is $6,866 - $13,363 per month.

Time Base

0.50 time-base, 20 hours per week.

Duration of Appointment

This is a temporary position for 11 months with no permanent status granted. Temporary assignments may expire prior to the ending date.

  • Light work - Job involves some lifting of medium weight objects (10-20 pounds) and/or 10% - 20% of the job involves standing or walking.
