
Job Summary
Under the direct supervision of the Associate Directors of the University Center for Undergraduate Advising (UCUA) and/or the direct observation of an experienced UCUA advisor, the Academic Advisor provides critical support for programs and initiatives designed to strengthen the academic success and retention of all undergraduate students.
Key Responsibilities
- Undergraduate student advising - Under some direct supervision and/or observation advises undergraduate students about academic requirements. Evaluates and assesses student academic progress and make appropriate recommendations regarding academic planning. Refers students to appropriate department and college advisors and campus student support offices and services.
- Serves as a referral source for college and student group advising units such as the Learning Center, Counseling and Psychological Services, Career Development Center, and other academic and student service offices on campus, as appropriate.
Knowledge Skills and Abilities
Demonstrates proficiency in computer skills (e.g., Microsoft Word, PowerPoint, Excel, etc.). Demonstrates strong interpersonal skills, including professional demeanor and ability to be a team player. Exhibits strong oral and written communication skills. Maintains excellent organizational skills including ability to prioritize responsibilities, multi-task and meet deadlines. Exhibits strong critical and creative thinking skills, and able to make sound decision making and ability to remain objective. Proven experience working with diverse students, parents, faculty, and staff. Able to work flexible hours, including evenings, is desired.
Ability to communicate with an ethnically and culturally diverse campus community. Ability to follow all university policies, procedures, and guidelines including but not limited to safety, civility, information security, and non-discrimination policies and procedures. Ability to contribute to a positive university experience for each student and assist in achieving the university's commitment to a "vision of excellence."
Education and Experience
Equivalent to a bachelor's degree in one of the behavioral sciences, public or business administration, or a job-related field and one year of directly related experience required.
Preferred: Enrollment in (or completion of) a master’s degree in: Counseling (Counseling Psychology, School Counseling, or Student Development in Higher Education); School Psychology; Equity, Education, and Social Justice; or Public Policy & Administration.

Compensation
Salary placement is determined by the education, experience, and qualifications the candidate brings to the position, internal equity, and the hiring department’s fiscal resources.
Hiring Range: The hiring range for this position is $4,482 - $4,500 per month commensurate with candidate's education, experience, skills, and training.
CSU Classification Salary Range: The CSU Classification Salary Range for this position is $4,482 - $6,342 per month.

1.0 time-base, 40 hours per week.
