Job Summary

This position will manage all aspects of the NCAA Division I Softball program in alignment with the rules and regulations of the NCAA, the Big West Conference, and the mission of the University. This includes the recruitment and development of student-athletes, competitive success, academic achievement, and fostering a positive team culture that supports the holistic growth of each student-athlete.

Key Responsibilities

  • Plan, organize, and conduct all aspects of team practices, competitions, and skill development. Develop game strategies and provide direct coaching to ensure competitive success in a Division I environment.
  • Identify, evaluate, and recruit prospective student-athletes who align with the academic and athletic standards of the university. Support student-athletes' personal, academic, and athletic growth.
  • Oversee program operations, including team travel, scheduling, and budget management. Ensure compliance with NCAA, conference, and university policies and procedures.
  • Promote academic success by supporting student-athletes in maintaining eligibility, meeting academic goals, and engaging in university support services.
  • Hire, supervise, and mentor assistant coaches and support staff, fostering a collaborative and accountable coaching environment.
  • Represent the program at university, community, and fundraising events. Build relationships with alumni, donors, and fans to support program development.
  • Effectively perform coaching and other duties as assigned.

Strategic and analytical problem-solving skills, with the ability to interpret complex or conflicting information, make sound decisions, and approach challenges with a “solutions-first” mindset. Demonstrated ability to foster a respectful, inclusive, and collaborative environment, ensuring that every student, employee, and community member is treated with dignity and respect. Sound professional judgment and discretion, with the initiative to perform responsibilities effectively and independently.

Ability to communicate with an ethnically and culturally diverse campus community.  Ability to follow all university policies, procedures, and guidelines including but not limited to safety, civility, information security, and non-discrimination policies and procedures.  Ability to contribute to a positive university experience for each and every student and assist in achieving the university's commitment to a "vision of excellence."

Education and Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree from an accredited institution of higher education and a minimum of three years of related experience required.
  • Collegiate coaching or equivalent experience in softball. Demonstrated commitment to working successfully with a diverse population.

Physical Summary

Heavy work - Job involves lifting more than 40 pounds. Approximately half of the incumbent's time will be spent walking, standing, squatting, kneeling, or climbing.

CSU MPP Compensation Summary Range:  The MPP Comp Summary Range for this position is $11,064 - $16,596 per month.

Salary placement is determined by the education, experience, and qualifications the candidate brings to the position, internal equity, and the hiring department’s fiscal resources.
