Job Summary

Under the supervision of the physician, Nurse Practitioner incumbent performs medical diagnosis and treatment in the fields of primary care, reproductive health, eating disorders, and performs minor surgical care for California State University Long Beach (CSULB) students. 

Furthermore, the incumbent provides services that are equitable, inclusive and provide culturally sensitive services that enhance the quality of campus life. This position uses a student centered and equity minded approach in all communication and service efforts.

Key Responsibilities

  • Provides direct patient care for students with eating disorders - Performs intakes and assessments of students with diagnosed/undiagnosed eating disorders and/or disordered eating. Clinician resource for eating disorder/disordered eating concerns. Works in collaboration with multidisciplinary eating disorder team, including dietitians, therapists, psychiatrists, and other clinicians.
  • Provides primary and reproductive health care - Adheres to the established hours of clinic operation by being on time and remaining on duty as scheduled unless approved by the Medical Director. Special activities may involve occasional coverage outside usual SHS hours. Demonstrates professional status at all times through personal demeanor, grooming, attire, and the orderly appearance of professional offices.
  • Participates in SHS committees, special projects, work related activities - Attends and actively participates in SHS meetings, committees, and team assignments, including but not limited to peer review, CQMI studies, medical presentations, medical records audits, training activities, outreach activities, service-related activities, preparation for Accreditation Association for Ambulatory Health Care (AAAHC) accreditation, and special projects as assigned by the Medical Director or Director of SHS.

Knowledge Skills and Abilities

The ideal candidate demonstrates strong oral communication skills to interact diplomatically and effectively with coworkers, staff, and departmental personnel. They work productively as part of a team, collaborating closely with colleagues while maintaining a respectful and cooperative attitude. Reliability is key, with consistent attendance and punctuality, along with the physical ability to lift and move materials up to 50 lbs independently and up to 300 lbs with assistance. The candidate adheres to professional standards, safety protocols, and HIPAA regulations, and follows all Student Health Services policies and clinician guidelines. They possess excellent attention to detail, maintain accurate records, and effectively convey medical information to university students. Experience working with diverse populations and providing high-quality, evidence-based care is essential. The candidate must be flexible to occasionally work outside standard hours and demonstrate strong multitasking and time management skills. Proficiency in health-related technology and computer systems is strongly preferred, along with the ability to collaborate across disciplines and contribute to a supportive, ethical, and professional environment.

Ability to communicate with an ethnically and culturally diverse campus community.  Ability to follow all university policies, procedures, and guidelines including but not limited to safety, civility, information security, and non-discrimination policies and procedures.  Ability to contribute to a positive university experience for each and every student and assist in achieving the university's commitment to a "vision of excellence."

Education and Experience

• Experience in eating disorder management.

• Experience in both primary care and reproductive health strongly preferred.

Physical Summary

  • Heavy work - Job involves lifting more than 40 pounds. Approximately half of the incumbent's time will be spent walking, standing, squatting, kneeling, or climbing.

Licenses / Certificates

• Possess an academic degree or certificate from an approved college or university-based Nurse Practitioner Program.

• Possession and maintenance of a valid California license as a Registered Nurse and a BRN certificate as a Nurse Practitioner as required by the California Board of Registered Nursing.  If delegated authority to furnish medications, the incumbent must possess and maintain a valid BRN Furnishing Certificate and a valid DEA number and certificate.

• Possess and maintain a valid CPR/AED certification.

• Current and unrestricted Drug Enforcement Agency (DEA) Certificate.

Preferred:

• History of BLS training and current BLS Certificate strongly preferred.

• National certification.

• ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support).

Compensation

Salary placement is determined by the education, experience, and qualifications the candidate brings to the position, internal equity, and the hiring department’s fiscal resources.

CSU Classification Salary Range: The CSU Classification Salary Range for this position is $6,712 - $12,952 per month.

1.0  time-base, 40 hours per week.

Duration of Appointment

This is a temporary position for 1 year with no permanent status granted. Temporary assignments may expire prior to the ending date.
