Job Summary

The Assistant Director of Disability Employment Programs (Workability IV) reports to the Director of the Career Development Center and works in partnership with the Department of Rehabilitation (DOR), the Bob Murphy Access Center (BMAC), and the Career Development Center (CDC). The incumbent leads the various areas and plans, organizes, trains and coordinates the WAIV team, which includes staff and leadership from various departments. This collaborative team provides high-quality individualized employment services to CSULB students with disabilities in an equitable and culturally inclusive manner, preparing them for successful, gainful employment upon degree completion.

The incumbent develops, synthesizes, maintains, coordinates and manages the multiple complex elements of the Workability IV Program, which assists students and recent alumni with disabilities, that are also clients of DOR, in obtaining employment within their major field of study through career preparation and job placement services.

In conjunction with campus collaborators (e.g. IT, etc.), the Assistant Director develops and maintains systems that manage highly sensitive students and disability information, tracking of all major program elements and ensuring effective delivery of internship, employment, job development, placement, and retention services for all program participants. The position requires expertise in technical writing, budget analysis, reporting and oversight of contract renewals, amendments, and augmentations in collaboration with the Office of Research and Sponsored Programs.

Furthermore, the incumbent provides services that are equitable, inclusive and provide culturally sensitive services that enhance the quality of campus life. This position uses a student centered and equity minded approach in all communication and service efforts.

Key Responsibilities

  • Administration/Contract Coordination: Leads the implementation and maintains the program production over the contract year relative to production goals established in the contract including and not limited to fiscal and grant oversight responsibilities, technology, program tracking oversight, staff productivity, and student progress in finding and securing employment.
  • Lead Staff and Program Services: Assist with recruitment for positions as assigned including providing feedback regarding job descriptions, interviews questions, participate in interview Committees, etc.
  • Case Management, Data Collection and Evaluation: Evaluate and determine barriers or accommodations needed for each client specific to their industry and job function of choice.

Knowledge Skills and Abilities

Working knowledge of Americans with Disabilities Act and employment. Comprehensive knowledge of and/or work experience with experience with the California Department of Rehabilitation. Demonstrated commitment to advancing diversity and inclusion including evidence of equity mindedness in previous experience. Demonstrated experience handling sensitive matters involving groups or individuals with tact and discretion.  Demonstrated experience to plan for and manage simultaneous complex projects. Demonstrated counseling and mediation skills; demonstrated experience handling sensitive matters involving groups or individuals with tact and discretion. Demonstrated experience problem-solving across university departments and with external governing bodies.

Oral communication skills to communicate diplomatically and effectively with co-workers, staff and departmental staff. Ability to work as part of a team through close collaboration with colleagues and coordinate with others. Ability to work effectively and productively as part of a team. Ability to establish and maintain cooperative working relationships and maintain a positive and respectful attitude. Strong interpersonal skills to establish and maintain cooperative working relationships and communicate clearly and effectively with students, peers, administrators, campus and University personnel, clients, state officials, vendors, professionals, management, etc.  Ability to work as part of a team through close collaboration with colleagues and coordinate with others. Education and Experience

•  Equivalent to a bachelor's degree with upper or graduate coursework in social work, counseling and guidance, human relations, or related fields plus four years of related experience required.

• A master’s degree in social work, Psychology, Counseling, Vocational Rehabilitation or closely related field preferred for this position due to the level of complexity involved in duties related to the contract, supervision of staff and direct case management involving disabling conditions of many kinds, often with high levels of severity.

• Extensive knowledge of and experience with persons with disabilities and issues of employment preferred.

• Experience with developing and managing cooperative contracts preferred.

Physical Summary

Medium work - Job involves lifting heavy-weight objects (20-40 pounds) and/or 20% - 40% of the job involves standing, squatting, kneeling, or walking. May require pushing or pulling objects within the weight limits.

Compensation

Salary placement is determined by the education, experience, and qualifications the candidate brings to the position, internal equity, and the hiring department’s fiscal resources.

  • Hiring Range: The hiring range for this position is $6,320- $7,300 per month commensurate with candidate's education, experience, skills, and training.
  • CSU Classification Salary Range: The CSU Classification Salary Range for this position is $6,320 -$9,014 per month.

Time Base

1.0 time-base, 40 hours per week.

Duration of Appointment

This is a temporary position for one year with no permanent status granted. Temporary assignments may expire prior to the ending date.
