Job Summary

Under the direction of the Director, Equity Programs, the Access and Retention Coordinator will deliver comprehensive, coordinated services to both prospective and current Beach Pathway and EOP students. The Coordinator provides holistic guidance that includes academic support, personal and social-emotional coaching, career and post-graduate planning, and assistance navigating financial aid processes to promote students’ educational progress and persistence. The role also includes offering essential life-skills development and community-building support to strengthen students’ sense of belonging and overall success at CSULB. The incumbent provides services that are equitable, inclusive, and provide culturally sensitive services that enhance the quality of campus life. The incumbent uses a student centered and equity minded approach in all communication and service efforts.

Key Responsibilities

  • Academic Support & Retention Services: Coordinate, implement, and assess academic support services for Beach Pathways and EOP students, ensuring alignment with program goals and university standards.
  • Outreach, Admissions & Recruitment: Lead targeted outreach efforts to high schools, community colleges, campus partners, and community based organizations to raise awareness of CSULB, Educational Opportunity Program (EOP), Beach Pathways, and related student support initiatives.
  • Coordinate Beach Pathways Mentoring Program: Collect and analyze data on mentoring participation, student satisfaction, and developmental outcomes to support continuous improvement.

Compensation

Salary placement is determined by the education, experience, and qualifications the candidate brings to the position, internal equity, and the hiring department’s fiscal resources.

  • Hiring Range: The hiring range for this position is $5,083 - $5,340 per month commensurate with candidate's education, experience, skills, and training.
  • CSU Classification Salary Range: The CSU Classification Salary Range for this position is $5,083 - $7,228 per month.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

 Demonstrated ability to exercise sound professional judgment and manage complex or sensitive situations effectively. Strong understanding of foster youth experiences, including trauma informed and strengths based practices that promote student well being and persistence. Knowledge of the foster care system and barriers commonly faced by current and former foster youth in higher education. Ability to maintain strict confidentiality and use discretion when handling sensitive student information. Strong knowledge of PeopleSoft, CMS, EAB Navigate, online student information systems, and related database tools (highly preferred).  Working knowledge of university admissions processes, including EOP and Guardian Scholars eligibility verification.

 Proficiency in office technology and software, including Microsoft Office Suite, Adobe applications, and other productivity tools. Excellent written and oral communication skills; ability to draft, edit, proofread, and prepare professional documents and reports, and make presentations to various audiences. Ability to respond effectively to complex student inquiries and provide high quality support to diverse stakeholders.  Strong interpersonal skills; ability to work collaboratively with diverse student populations, colleagues, campus partners, and external agencies. Skills in data collection, analysis, report writing, and delivering presentations to groups of varying sizes. Strong organizational and time management abilities; ability to prioritize tasks, adapt to changing priorities, and remain composed in fast paced environments.  Ability to follow instructions, work independently, and apply sound judgment with minimal supervision.

Experience managing calendars, coordinating meetings, supporting administrators, and supervising student workers or volunteers.  Ability to coordinate logistics for events, projects, and travel arrangements. Experience working in a university environment preferred. Ability to plan and execute workshops, engagement activities, and large scale programming.  Demonstrated ability to create and maintain website content, design flyers, and manage social media platforms.  Excellent oral communication and interpersonal skills, with experience processing, responding to, and following up on office mail, phone calls, emails, and in person inquiries.  Consistently reports to work on time and prepared to carry out assigned duties. Ability to communicate with an ethnically and culturally diverse campus community.  Ability to follow all university policies, procedures, and guidelines including but not limited to safety, civility, information security, and non-discrimination policies and procedures.  Ability to contribute to a positive university experience for each and every student and assist in achieving the university's commitment to a "vision of excellence."


Education and Experience

• Equivalent to a bachelor's degree in one of the behavioral sciences, public or business administration, or a job-related field and two years of professional experience in one of the student services program areas required.

• Graduate degree in Student Development & Higher Education (SDHE), MSW or closely related graduate degree preferred.

•Valid CA driver's license preferred.
