Job Summary
This position will perform complex student and student organization advisement, leadership training, and major event supervision to maximize opportunities for co-curricular student involvement and enhance retention of students. This position will develop and implement out-of-classroom programs and services that educates CSULB students about ethical leadership, cultural awareness, and positive social change.
Furthermore, the incumbent provides services that are equitable, inclusive, and culturally sensitive to enhance the quality of campus life. This position uses a student centered and equity minded approach in all communication and service efforts.

Key Responsibilities
- Monitor, advise, and develop student organizations - Advises assigned student organizations with regard to program planning, including goal setting, establishing time-lines for complex programs, budgeting and fundraising, monitoring, approving and securing Associated Student Grants, volunteer recruitment and development, interpretation and enforcement of relevant University policies and procedures, program implementation and evaluation.
- Design and implement educational leadership programs to enhance the student learning experience using a Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion framework.
- Works proactively with other members of the department to address student life issues and SLD major programs such as, but not limited to, Student Leadership Summit, Celebration of Leadership, and Make a Difference Day.

Salary placement is determined by the education, experience, and qualifications the candidate brings to the position, internal equity, and the hiring department’s fiscal resources.
- Hiring Range: The hiring range for this position is $5,083 - $5,619 per month commensurate with candidate's education, experience, skills, and training.
- CSU Classification Salary Range: The CSU Classification Salary Range for this position is $5,083 - $7,228 per month.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
The ideal candidate is a student-focused higher education professional with demonstrated expertise in advising and supporting student organizations through all phases of program development, including strategic planning, goal setting, budgeting, fundraising, event implementation, and assessment. They possess strong knowledge of university policies, risk management practices, and student development theory, enabling them to effectively guide student leaders while ensuring compliance and safety for programs and events. Skilled in collaboration and relationship building, they maintain productive partnerships with faculty advisors, department leadership, campus departments, and external stakeholders to advocate for student needs and enhance co-curricular learning opportunities.
The successful candidate demonstrates excellent communication, counseling, and conflict-resolution abilities, helping to mediate sensitive situations and foster positive outcomes among students, faculty, and administrators. They are experienced in developing and delivering leadership programs, supporting diversity, equity, and inclusion initiatives, conducting assessments and special projects, and using data to enhance student engagement and retention. Additionally, they are a collaborative team member who contributes to major campus programs, provides appropriate referrals to university resources, participates actively in departmental activities, and upholds responsibilities as a Campus Security Authority by ensuring timely reporting of Clery Act-related incidents.
The ideal candidate demonstrates the ability to effectively communicate and collaborate with a diverse campus community, consistently adheres to university policies and standards—including safety, civility, information security, and non-discrimination practices—and is committed to fostering an inclusive, positive student experience while supporting the university’s vision of excellence.
Education and Experience
Equivalent to a bachelor's degree in one of the behavioral sciences, public or business administration, or a job-related field and two years of professional experience in one of the student services program areas required.
Preferred:
• Master's in Counseling, student personnel or other related social sciences highly preferred.
• Valid CA Driver's License preferred. Employees who are required to operate motorized vehicles and/or use their personal vehicle more than once a month on University business are required to take a mandatory Defensive Driving course and enroll in the DMV Employee Pull Notice (EPN) Program.
• Demonstrated experience working in a university setting advising student clubs and organizations and developing and planning out of classroom co-curricular activities and programs for college students.
• Demonstrated programming skills, preferably in student leadership.
• Demonstrated experience problem-solving across University departments and with external governing bodies.

A background check (including a criminal records check) must be completed satisfactorily and is required for employment. Campus Security Authority: This position serves as a Campus Security Authority under the Clery Act and Executive Order 1107. Incumbent is required to promptly report allegations of Clery qualifying crimes that occur within a campus’ Clery geography.
