Job Description

The Temporary Outdoor Adventures Coordinator will assist the Outdoor Adventures management team in administration and operation of the program.  The coordinator will assist in providing leadership of the program in risk management, student employee supervision. The Coordinator will assist in operations of outdoor programs to include; Student Recreation Center Rockwall, Equipment Rental Shop, Bike Shop. Reports to the Outdoor Adventure Manager

Job Duties

Supervision of Employees, Participants and Volunteers: Assist with the recruitment, selection, training, supervision and evaluation of student employees of the program. Clearly communicate job responsibilities and expectations for employees against which performance evaluations will be measured.

Risk: Assist in the management of risk for the program to include safety regulations, training required to meet risk management standards and insurance carrier guidelines, proper maintenance of equipment, waivers, emergency documents, etc., to meet current safety industry standards.  Assist in ensure that staff is properly trained to inform participants and complete all necessary documents before participating in any Outdoor Adventures activity.  Regularly schedule, conduct and document safety meetings. Assist in institute changes in practice in order to avoid reoccurrence of incidents. Ensure all staff are well versed in risk related information.

Training: Assist in developing and evaluating instructional training according to program goals and objectives for all employees as required by current laws, Associated Students Human Resources, CSUN, and in compliance with industry standards.  Assist with training that consist of: Rock wall, safety, skills test, customer service, equipment management, and bicycle maintenance.

Budget/Fiscal: Assist OA Manager in in evaluating the annual budget.  Assisting in ensuring that all rental records, reservations, contract archiving and proper cash handling are accurate and submitted in a timely manner.  Functions include point of sale transactions, information distribution, equipment rental, trip sales, and event registration. 

Collaboration: Maintain good communication with AS departments and other Campus partners. Serve on committees and work groups established to review and develop new policies that govern Outdoor Adventures.

Marketing: Assist in the monitoring and directing the design, implementation and evaluation of the marketing plan to promote the vision of the program to include the maintenance of program website, social media, and distribution of marketing materials.

Additional Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

Education: Bachelor’s degree from a four-year college or university in recreation, sports administration, education or related field

Strongly preferred: Experience working with camping equipment rentals, bike shop management experience, rock wall management experience, experience working with college students, knowledge of outdoor industry standards.

General knowledge of the principles and trends of the recreation and student affairs fields as well as general knowledge of the policies, procedures and practices of the program are also required.

Must possess a current, valid California Driver License and California State minimum required insurance coverage.

Pay, Benefits, & Work Schedule

The anticipated hiring range: $20.00 - $21.63 per hour, dependent upon qualifications and experience.

HOURS: Full-Time 40 hours per week; schedule is generally Monday – Friday during business hours but periodically varies to accommodate working evening and weekend events. 

Length of employment: This is a limited term position anticipated to last approximately 6 months.
