Major Duties

Under general supervision of the Director, Energy and Sustainability, the Energy and Sustainability Analyst provides administrative and technical support to the Director and the Energy Program Manager, and assists the unit with administrative and strategic program support in a wide range of energy and sustainability initiatives having a broad impact on Facilities and the University. The incumbent oversees the day-to-day operations of the Energy Information System which includes invoice processing, utility data entry (electricity, natural gas, water, sewer, waste, etc.), monthly energy reporting, recharge billing, sustainability and greenhouse gas tracking, reporting, meter reads and entry.

  • Maintains utility and building level dashboards, supports the Fault Detection and Diagnostics program, and the zero-waste program, and oversees sustainability ratings and certification of buildings and/or the campus.
  • Interfaces with utility representatives, Physical Plant and Facilities Planning representatives, consultants, contractors, campus auxiliary organizations, students, faculty, staff, and administrators.
  • Utilizes, maintains, and monitors an accurate and fully functioning campus SkySpark-based Energy Information System, and produces Monthly Energy Reports (MERs) for utility recharge billing to campus auxiliaries and reporting to the CSU Chancellor’s Office.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

  • Equivalent to graduation from an accredited four-year college or university in a job-related field. Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, Business, Economics, Environmental Science preferred.
  • Equivalent to three (3) years of full-time, progressively responsible technical, analytical, or administrative experience. Experience in the field of sustainability and/or energy management preferred.
  • Additional experience in job-related field may be substituted for up to two years of the required education, on a year for year basis.


Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities

  • Working knowledge of: general practices, program, and/or administrative specialty and working knowledge of operational analysis and techniques. Thorough knowledge of: budgets, policies, procedures, and outside regulations pertaining to energy management and sustainability program efforts; engineering units related to power, energy, flow, and volume; ability to perform unit conversions; knowledge of sustainability certification programs and rating systems related to facilities operations and development including: USGBC LEED and AASHE STARS preferred.
  • Ability and specialized skills to: expertly investigate and analyze problems with a broad administrative impact and implications; oversee and/or train others and provide lead work direction; interpret, and apply a wide variety of policies and procedures to develop conclusions and make recommendations; compile, write and present reports related to program or administrative specialty; and communicate clearly and effectively both orally and in writing; create, troubleshoot, and modify advanced equations, pivot tables, charts and graphs.
  • Ability to demonstrate: Strong computer skills including word processing, database, email, calendaring, presentation, web design, graphics software and thorough knowledge of spreadsheets; strong math skills and ability to perform accurate computations. Ability to: work in a team environment; interact and communicate in an effective, dependable, tactful and diplomatic manner preferred.
  • Ability to: communicate clearly to various groups ranging from students, technical staff, faculty, upper administration, public, etc., preferred; work well under pressure of deadlines and deal with frequent interruptions in a fast-paced environment in a pleasant, professional and efficient manner preferred. Strong organizational skills with the ability to handle multiple tasks, set priorities and meet deadlines preferred.


Pay, Benefits, & Work Schedule

  • The university offers an excellent benefits package, including but not limited to: medical, dental, vision, retirement & savings, tuition waiver and more.
  • Classification/grade: 1038 / AA/S / 2
  • The anticipated HIRING RANGE: $4170 - $5834, dependent upon qualifications and experience. The salary range for this classification is: $4170 - $7545 per month.
  • HOURS: Full Time; 40 hours per week; Monday through Friday, may include evenings and weekends.
  • REG: This is a Regular position with a one-year probationary period. 
  • The position is currently hybrid (4 days in office, 1 day remote); however, this is subject to change based on student and/or operational needs.
