Major Duties

Under the general supervision EOP Senior Director and the EOP Office Manager, the Administrative Support Assistant supports, advocates, and facilitates the mission of California State University, Northridge, and the Educational Opportunity Program by discharging responsibilities that promote and encourage historically low-income, educationally disadvantaged students to seek higher educational opportunities specifically at CSU, Northridge, and EOP. The incumbent provides general office, clerical, and administrative support for the Resilient Scholars Program, as well as all programs under EOP.

  • Provides administrative support assistance to the EOP Operations Specialist, the EOP Office Manager, and all areas in EOP (Admissions, Outreach, Transitional Programs, Faculty Mentor Program, EOP Retention efforts, and the Milt and Debbie Valera Resilient Scholars Program).
  • Assists with the organization and maintenance of the EOP office and program comprehensive schedule.
  • Screens all incoming phone calls and visitor inquiries. Provides appropriate responses and follow-up as needed; responds to inquiries promptly, and directs students, staff, and the general public to the appropriate person(s), programs(s), or office(s).
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

  • Equivalent to three (3) years of full-time, general office clerical work that has provided the applicant with the knowledge and abilities listed.
  • Equivalent to full-time college or university education/vocational school training in business or job-related field may be substituted for up to two (2) years of the required experience on a year-for-year basis.
  • Experience working with multi-cultural/multi-ethnic populations; students that are historically under-represented, underprepared, low-income, and first-generation college students and/or experience with Educational Opportunity and/or Trio Programs is highly desirable. 

 

Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities

  • Thorough knowledge of correct English grammar, spelling, and punctuation; and office methods and basic filing systems procedures and practices.
  • Ability and specialized skills to: organize, coordinate, and prioritize multiple tasks; learn, identify, and independently interpret and apply a variety of complex policies and procedures; review and resolve routine clerical problems.
  • Ability to work in a busy environment with frequent interruptions; communicate effectively both orally and in writing; prepare and draft memoranda and correspondence; keep moderately complex records and files; establish and maintain cooperative working relationships; operate standard office equipment, and software.

 

Pay, Benefits, & Work Schedule

  • Classification: Administrative Support Assistant / 1032 / 2
  • The anticipated HIRING RANGE: $3,505 - $3,680 per month, dependent upon qualifications and experience. The salary range for this classification is: $3,505 - $5,159 per month.
  • HOURS: Full Time; 40 hours per week; Monday through Friday.  
  • This is a Regular position with a one-year probationary period. 
  • The individual hired for this role will physically work on-campus in Northridge. This is not a telecommute position.
