Overview:

Provide primary prevention programming as it relates to child maltreatment, domestic violence, teen dating violence and sexual assault, facilitating youth leadership community mobilization in schools and community presentations.

 

Duties and Responsibilities:

Reporting to the Associate Director of Advocacy and Prevention Education the prevention education specialist will: Curriculum facilitation- Facilitates primary prevention programming as it relates to sexual violence, teen dating violence, child maltreatment, and domestic and sexual violence primarily using the Safe Dates curriculum. This position delivers the Safe Dates curriculum maintaining high fidelity to the model, conducts outreach to engage new middle schools to receive the curriculum, liaisons with school personnel to ensure successful implementation, plans one event per school semester at a participating middle school in order to raise awareness about healthy relationships. Data Collection and Documentation-implements evaluation activities including collecting and entering data, monitors evaluation data to ensure program impact, monitors and requests supplies as needed for the program. Community Education and Outreach- delivers primary prevention and awareness presentations, and oversees prevention volunteers as needed. Participates in community events, health, safety, and resource fairs and coordinates coverage when unable to attend. Campus Outreach: monthly social media campaigns on topics related to trauma-informed care, identification, prevention, and treatment of sexual assault and domestic violence to provide resources, information about Campus Care Program. Attend “Meet the Clubs” tabling event to increase awareness and accessibility of services. Meet with the Athletic Department and partner with on campus resources, clubs and programs. Establish a vibrant Lunch and Learn on a quarterly basis open to all students. Offer self-care activities to students through the campus care office.  Recruitment- Assists in recruitment and selection of volunteers for SU internships and prevention education advocate role, and participates in the training of advocates as needed.  Documentation- completes required reports for funders responsible for meeting grant milestones and adhering to scopes of work. Performs other duties as assigned.

 

Qualifications:

Bachelor’s degree preferred but not required; work and/or volunteer experience in sexual/domestic violence prevention, middle school settings, youth development, and/or in a social service setting is preferred. Bilingual Spanish speaking preferred. Must pass a criminal clearance.

 

Knowledge, Specialized Skills, and Abilities:

Working knowledge of the principles, practices, and trends of teen dating violence and healthy relationships is important. Must be a dynamic and engaging speaker adept at creating impactful presentations. Ability and specialized skills to motivate and teach others, lead discussions, and generate new ideas; must speak and write effectively; write narrative and statistical reports; carry out a variety of professionally complex assignments without detailed instructions; work comfortably with multimedia materials; establish and maintain cooperative working relationships with a variety of individuals and organizations; and relate well with a broad spectrum of persons of varying socioeconomic status, culture, ethnicity, and lifestyle. Computer and organizational skills necessary.

Pay, Benefits, & Work Schedule

This position is employed through The University Corporation (TUC).

The anticipated hiring range: $20.12 - $25.00/hour

Full Pay range: $20.12 - $25.00/hour

Time Base: Full-Time
