Responsibilities

Under general supervision, the Director of Instructional Technology provides visionary leadership in designing and delivering instructional technologies that enhance learning. The role includes managing platforms, supporting faculty, aligning tools with strategy, and driving accessibility and innovation across CSUN’s digital learning environment.

  • Manages instructional technologies including learning management systems, content creation, video, e-texts, lecture capture, videoconferencing, student response systems, e-portfolios, collaboration platforms, and others as needed, ensuring alignment with the University's and IT’s strategic plan and priorities.
  • Serves as a vision and thought partner with the AVP for Academic Technology, advancing initiatives to move technology-integrated teaching forward.
  • Manages vendors and negotiates contracts to ensure strategic and successful deployment and ongoing support of instructional technologies.
  • Leads and cultivates professional development for staff by identifying and providing opportunities for training in technical skills, leadership, and creative problem solving.
  • Stays abreast of emerging technology trends and developments relevant to teaching and learning and evaluates their potential for integration into CSUN's instructional technology portfolio.
  • As a leader, demonstrates a commitment to student success that is mission aligned with the university’s vision, values and priorities. Qualifications

  • Equivalent to graduation from an accredited four-year college or university with a Bachelor's degree in a job-related field. 
  • Equivalent to five years of experience working in a public higher education environment in a faculty or technology professional/administrative capacity.
  • Established track record of successfully overseeing institution-wide technology projects, developing and managing operating budgets, negotiating contracts and developing staff, is a plus.
  • Experience writing and securing grants in higher education environment is strongly preferred.

  • Proven ability to lead large-scale academic technology initiatives and set future-focused directions.
  • Deep understanding of learning management systems, online pedagogy, and emerging tech like AI and analytics.
  • Demonstrated success in strategic planning, policy formulation, and lifecycle project management.
  • Strong capacity to lead and motivate diverse teams while building cross-departmental partnerships.
  • Familiarity with legal and policy frameworks guiding accessible digital learning tools.
  • Excellent ability to engage faculty, staff, and external partners with clarity, professionalism, and positivity.
  • Lead diverse teams to support the operational mission and vision of employers by fostering an ethical, inclusive and collegial work environment.
  • Demonstrated ability to support ongoing improvement through courageous, resilient, and catalytic leadership.
  • Lead varying initiatives through a collaborative, service-oriented and communicative approach.
  • Demonstrated commitment to employee development, recognition, and accountability to further operational goals.

 

Pay, Benefits, & Work Schedule

  • Salary is commensurate with knowledge, skills, and experience. The University offers excellent fringe benefits.
  • The anticipated HIRING RANGE: $140,000 - $150,000 per year, dependent upon qualifications and experience.
  • The position is currently hybrid (3 days in office, 2 days remote); however, this is subject to change based on student and/or operational needs.
