About the Position of Associate Dean of the University Library

The Associate Dean is primarily responsible for Access Services, which includes the following service and service support areas: Guest Services (Circulation, Shelving, Automated Storage/Retrieval System; Interlibrary Loan); Teacher Curriculum Center/Music & Media; University Library Map Collection; Course Reserves & Curricular Resources. This position works closely with University Library faculty and staff to ensure that the research and teaching needs of CSUN students, faculty, and staff are met. The Associate Dean serves as administrative support for these areas, providing excellent customer service. The Associate Dean plays a key role in managing library facilities and operations, including managing policies, serving on various Library and University committees, critical library reporting, and risk mitigation.

The Associate Dean reports to the Dean of the University Library and as the deputy to the Dean, assumes responsibility for the Library in the Dean’s absence. The Associate Dean represents the Dean at campus and system-wide meetings as required and works as part of the Library’s administrative team.

Qualifications

Required qualifications:

• Master's degree in information and/or library science from an ALA-accredited school, or equivalent degree if earned from outside the U.S. or Canada.

• Demonstrated experience working with diverse groups.

• Demonstrated commitment to the values of diversity, equity, inclusion, social justice, and accessibility.

• Demonstrated leadership experience.

• Demonstrated experience with fiscal and human resources management.

• Experience managing the application of technology in a library setting.

• Demonstrated excellent interpersonal skills.

• Highly organized with evidence of ability to prioritize competing workload demands, including meeting deadlines.

 

Preferred qualifications:

•Relevant administrative experience in an academic library.

•Demonstrated strong conflict resolution skills.

•Record of collaboration with a team and within the broader organization.

•Demonstrated commitment to employee development, recognition, and accountability to further operational goals.

•Demonstrated public relations and presentation skills.

•Demonstrated experience leading diverse teams to support the operational mission and vision by fostering an ethical, inclusive, and collegial work environment.

•Demonstrated ability to support ongoing improvement through change management and resilient leadership.

•Demonstrated experience leading multiple cross-functional initiatives.

 

Pay, Benefits, & Work Schedule

•Salary is commensurate with knowledge, skills, and experience. The University offers excellent fringe benefits.

•The anticipated HIRING RANGE: 145,000 to 157,000 per year, dependent upon qualifications and experience.
