Position:

The Department of Physical Therapy at California State University, Northridge (CSUN) is seeking a tenure-track faculty member at the rank of Assistant Professor.

The successful candidate would be able to teach one or more of the following: biomechanics, neurology, research/evidence-based practice, physiology, or related fields, and have research interests related to the profession of physical therapy. 

In addition to teaching, the position requires weekly office hours, attending faculty meetings, participation in assessment of student learning, and service to the department, college, and university. The successful candidate may be required to teach on weekdays, evenings, weekends, and/or online and will be held to the standards and requirements of the college and department in which he/she/they is/are housed for recommending tenure and promotion. Given CSUN’s commitment to excellence in teaching, research, and engagement in a diverse environment, the successful candidate will help the Department achieve equitable academic outcomes for all students through teaching, student mentorship, scholarship, and service.

Required Qualifications:  

  • A degree in Physical Therapy from a Commission on Accreditation in Physical Therapy Education (CAPTE) accredited program
  • Active, unencumbered license to practice physical therapy in the state of California by the time of application (provide license number on CV)  
  • A terminal academic doctorate (PhD, EdD, DSc, etc.) from an accredited institution; candidates who are ABD or currently enrolled will be considered
  • A conferred doctorate (academic and/or Doctor of Physical Therapy (DPT) degree) from an accredited institution by the time of application
  • Evidence of teaching at the College or University level, in-person and on-campus
  • Minimum of 3 years of full-time clinical experience or equivalent hours as a part-time clinician in the field of physical therapy

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Evidence of effective engagement OR potential to engage with a diverse student body
  • Experience using culturally responsive pedagogy that leads to equitable outcomes for all students
  • Experience creating a student-centered learning environment
  • Research/Lab experience that includes working with students from diverse backgrounds 
  • Experience adopting inclusive approaches to mentoring
  • Applicants with more than 3 years of full-time clinical experience, evidence of clinical specialization/certification, and/or clinical expertise in target teaching areas will be given additional consideration
  • The number of years teaching and the significance of the role (i.e., primary course instructor, course coordinator, lab assistant) within a DPT program will be considered
  • Current experience teaching as a primary course instructor in target areas, with experience in curriculum reform/course creation, is highly desirable
  • Experience with utilizing instructional technology in teaching is valued
  • It is desirable that applicants document a record of scholarly accomplishments, describing the level of active participation and responsibility in the scholarly work, and evidence of a research agenda
  • Evidence of securing funding to support scholarly agenda
  • Evidence in advanced training, including residency, ABPTS Board Certification, Clinical Specialist, fellowship, or certification
