Major Duties
Under general supervision, the Painter performs journey-level painting, finishing, and maintenance across interior and exterior spaces, including surface preparation, coatings, flooring, and repairs. The incumbent supports preventive maintenance, safety compliance, and collaboration with trades while contributing to operational efficiency and project completion.
- Prepares surfaces for painting and finishing; applies undercoats and finish coats by brush, roller, or by spray machine; scrapes, sands, and fills surfaces in preparation for painting and finishing.
- Performs graffiti removal, sand blasting, or water pressure cleaning.
- Erects scaffolding and or hangs rigging from staging for painting projects.
- Installs and repairs all types of floors, including laminate, carpet, carpet tile, vinyl/linoleum tile, and cove base.
- Maintains a safe and clean work environment, maintains records, and retrieves data related to work performed.
- Performs other duties as assigned.

Qualifications
- Any combination of progressively responsible training and experience that demonstrates achievement of journey-level skills equivalent to those acquired through completion of a standard painter’s apprenticeship program.
- LICENSE: CANDIDATE MUST POSSESS A VALID CALIFORNIA DRIVER'S LICENSE
Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities
- Comprehensive knowledge of surface preparation, coating applications, and finishing techniques across a variety of interior and exterior materials. Familiarity with paints, finishes, flooring systems, and proper material selection, storage, and application methods.
- Proven ability to perform journey-level painting, flooring installation, and surface repair using tools and equipment such as brushes, rollers, spray machines, scaffolding, and pressure-cleaning systems. Capable of executing detailed work, including striping, labeling, and specialty finishes.
- Ability to follow established safety procedures, interpret specifications, and ensure work meets building codes and regulatory standards. Skilled in estimating materials and time, inspecting completed work, and adapting to varied project requirements while maintaining a safe and efficient work environment.
- Ability to assess maintenance needs, prioritize tasks, and respond effectively to urgent repair situations while maintaining safety conditions. Demonstrates sound judgment in evaluating work requirements, interpreting technical information, and supporting timely, cost-effective project execution.
Pay, Benefits, & Work Schedule

- Classification: 6526 / Painter/ 1
- The anticipated HIRING RANGE is $ 5355 – $ 6400 per month, dependent on qualifications and experience. The salary range for this classification is: $ 5355 - $ 7801 per month.
- HOURS: Full Time; 40 hours per week; 7:00 AM to 3:30 PM; Monday through Friday. May include evenings and weekends.
- This is a Regular position with a one-year probationary period.
- The individual hired for this role will physically work on-campus in Northridge. This is not a telecommute position.
