Major Duties

Under general supervision of the Head Men’s Basketball Coach, the Director of Basketball Operations will assist in all phases of planning, developing, and promoting a highly competitive Division I program, within the guidelines, rules and regulations of the NCAA, Big West Conference, and University.  The incumbent will be responsible for assisting the Head Coach in all phases of a Division I intercollegiate Men’s Basketball program, which includes scheduling, recruiting, travel coordination, budgeting, purchasing, game operations, and fundraising.

  • The incumbent will evaluate and assist in recruiting qualified student-athletes, whose athletic skills allow the program to be highly competitive and whose academic abilities make them excellent candidates for a meaningful academic experience and graduate from CSUN. For example, the Director of Basketball Operations will assist with coordinating and facilitating all official and unofficial visits and serving as University Host-recruit liaison during official visits. The Director of basketball Operations will also conduct research of potential prospects, engage with said prospects in accordance with NCAA, Conference, and University policies and procedures.
  • The Director of Basketball Operations will also assist in with the monitoring, mentoring, and support of student-athletes in the areas of academics, financial aid, housing, meal arrangements, mental health, welfare, safety, etc. The Director of Basketball Operations is expected to conduct themselves in a manner representative of the University, the Department, and the sport both on and off the field of competition. The Director of Basketball operations must demonstrate awareness and experience understanding the needs of a student population of great diversity – in age, cultural background, ethnicity, primary language and academic preparation – through inclusive teaching strategies and advisement.
  • The Director of Basketball Operations will help ensure that program purchases are made in accordance with University policies and procedures and will assist the Head Coach with budgeting, financial forecasting, etc. efforts. The Director of Basketball Operations will also advise Head Coach and Assistant Coaches on any recommended courses for ensuring needed services, commodities, travel, or other activities are facilitated/acquired in accordance with purchasing policies and procedures.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree or higher from an accredited institution.
  • Minimum of one (1) year of: demonstrated coaching, recruiting experience; and/or professional league playing experience; and/or experience which would provide adequate training to provide administrative support to a Division I collegiate program.
  • Coaching experience is preferred.

  • Demonstrated ability to recruit and retain outstanding student-athletes.
  • Applicants must demonstrate a commitment and ability to teach, mentor, and work with a diverse student population, as well as demonstrate an awareness of and sensitivity to the educational goals of a multicultural population as might have been gained in cross-cultural study, training, teaching and other comparable experience.

 

Pay, Benefits, & Work Schedule

  • Classification: 2382 / Coaching Assistant / 0
  • The anticipated HIRING RATE is $6288. The salary range for this classification is: $ 6288- $ 7658 per month.
  • HOURS: Full Time; 40 hours per week; Monday through Friday. May include evenings and weekends.  
  • This is a Temporary position; end date to be determined.
