Major Duties

Under general supervision, the Instructional Designer designs and delivers faculty development programming, provides instructional design consultation, researches emerging educational technologies, and supports campus initiatives that enhance teaching, learning, and faculty success through collaborative, data-informed, and equity-minded practices.

  • Serves as a knowledgeable resource on artificial intelligence in teaching and learning, facilitating programming that supports faculty across a range of perspectives and comfort levels.
  • Designs, develops, and facilitates faculty development programming (e.g., online teaching, pedagogy, research, and new faculty onboarding) for a variety of delivery modalities (in-person, hybrid/blended, online, both self-paced and facilitated), including regularly leading workshops and interactive sessions.
  • Consults, trains, and assists faculty using evidence-based strategies (e.g., culturally responsive pedagogy, learner-centered teaching) and appropriate technology-enriched practices to develop effective learning experiences for students, especially students of color, first-generation students, students with disabilities, and neurodivergent students.
  • Contributes to all Faculty Development programs and assists as needed (FLCs, grants, consultations, workshops/events, committees, etc.), including event planning, coordination, and logistical support for workshops, orientations, and other faculty development programming.
  • Researches (through reading, attending ongoing professional development, building relationships across campus and the CSU), evaluates new technologies, and recommends best practices in the areas of instructional design, learning science, and the use of high-impact academic technology.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

  • Equivalent to a Bachelor's degree in a related field and two years of relevant experience.
  • Additional experience which demonstrates acquired and successfully applied knowledge and abilities shown above may be substituted for the required education on a year-for-year basis.
  • An advanced degree in a related field may be substituted for the required experience on a year-for-year basis.

 

 

Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities

  • Expertise in instructional design principles, curriculum development, and adult learning practices.
  • Ability to facilitate engaging workshops and deliver professional development in multiple instructional modalities.
  • Knowledge of creating multi-media technologies (e.g., creating logos, videos, interactive modules, presentation materials, web presence) that will complement the professional development experience.
  • Knowledge of AI tools and their applications in higher education teaching and learning, including generative AI, ethical use, and equity considerations.
  • Strong consultation, relationship-building, and collaborative communication skills.
  • Ability to evaluate emerging technologies and recommend evidence-based instructional best practices.
  • Strong organizational, project management, and event coordination skills.

 

Pay, Benefits, & Work Schedule

  • The university offers an excellent benefits package, including but not limited to: medical, dental, vision, retirement & savings, tuition waiver, and more.
  • Classification:  0454 / Instruct Desgn/Technlogist II / Grade 1
  • The anticipated HIRING RANGE is $6492 – $6755 per month, dependent on qualifications and experience. The salary range for this classification is: $6492 - $9458 per month.
  • HOURS: Full Time; 40 hours per week; Monday through Friday. May include evenings and weekends.  
  • This is a Regular position with a one-year probationary period. 
  • The position is currently hybrid (4 days in office, 1 day remote); however, this is subject to change based on student and/or operational needs.
