Major Duties
Under the general supervision, the Accommodation Specialist works with the students, staff, and faculty to ensure the provision of accommodations. The incumbent assists students in developing self-advocacy skills and assists students with educational problems related to their disabling condition and learning experience at CSUN, including screening for learning disabilities.
- Analyzes and interprets students' disability-related documentation, including psycho-educational documentation for determination of accommodations, disability-related support, and learning strategy support through an interactive intake process with students and has a focus on students who are Learning Disabled.
- Provides career counseling services to students, providing one-on-one or group counseling for CSUN students in learning career search skills such as master resume development, mock interviewing, online job searches, application development, cover letter development, and work behavior development in order to enhance the probability of successful employment outcomes.
- Engages students in self-assessment, helping them to understand their strengths and weaknesses and teaching them how to utilize compensatory strategies to draw upon strengths and mitigate weaknesses.
- Serves as an information resource for prospective students, staff, and faculty on disability issues and the provision of college access and accommodations, developing web, social media, and presentation content.
- Researches current activity in the field of learning acquisition and students with disabilities in order to suggest integration of current theory and research into programs and activities that support student learning.
- Performs other duties as assigned.

Qualifications
- Equivalent to graduation from a four-year college or university in a related field. Upper division or graduate course work in counseling techniques, interviewing, and conflict resolution where such are job related is preferred.
- Equivalent of three years of progressively responsible professional student services work experience at the postsecondary education level and experience in providing student development counseling preferred.
- A Master’s degree in Counseling, Clinical Psychology, Social Work, or a directly related field may be substituted for one year of experience.
- Additional specialized and relevant experience may be substituted for the required education on a year-for-year basis.
Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities
- Skill in student counseling and strengths-based support, including providing individual and group disability management counseling, facilitating self-assessment, promoting self-advocacy, and helping students apply compensatory strategies to address educational challenges.
- Ability to provide career development guidance, including resume and cover letter development, mock interviewing, online job searches, application preparation, and work behavior development to support successful employment outcomes.
- Knowledge of campus and community resources and referral practices, with the ability to identify appropriate services, connect students to relevant resources, and support students experiencing educational challenges related to their disability and learning experience.
Pay, Benefits, & Work Schedule

- The anticipated HIRING RATE is $5540 per month. The salary range for this classification is: $5540 - $7893 per month.
- HOURS: Full Time; 40 hours per week; Monday through Friday. May include evenings and weekends.
- This is a Regular position with a one-year probationary period.
- The individual hired for this role will physically work on-campus in Northridge. This is not a telecommute position.
