THE DEPARTMENT:

Outreach, Recruitment and Educational Partnerships (OREP) is responsible for outreach and recruitment of prospective domestic undergraduate students and plays a key role in enrollment planning and reporting. OREP is charged with promoting the image of the University, it’s programs and uniqueness; attracting and recruiting a diverse and high achieving pool of applicants; developing relationships and collaborations with campus external and internal constituents; and, providing timely, accurate and comprehensive services to students and campus through point of inquiry and enrollment. OREP is responsible for compliance with federal, state, CSU system and University requirements; the timely and accurate dissemination of information to students, parents, campus constituents, CSU Chancellor's Office, and the external community.

OREP provides dedicated quality outreach and recruitment programs and strategic communication to prospective students, schools and community organizations and the delivery of student services that support recruitment, college readiness, and persistence. Programs include domestic undergraduate outreach, out-of-state recruitment, and campus tour programs. OREP reports to the Presidential Associate for Community & Campus Partnerships & Student Experience in the Office of the President.

 

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: 

Program Support and Development:

  • Enhance understanding and interpretation of state, University, division, and departmental policies and procedures, recognizing their implications on programming and services.
  • Under the supervision of the Director of Diversity Outreach Initiatives, this position will develop, administer and implement activities and programs related to outreach, recruitment, diversity initiatives, and sponsored projects.
  • Collaborate with campus and community entities on events and programs that promote an assets-based approach to working with Black students and further enhance an understanding of the Black Diaspora.
  • Collaborate with campus stakeholders to provide support to applicants from auxiliary programs, such as the Educational Opportunity Program (EOP), Renaissance Scholars, Veterans, Metro Academies, Athletics, Project Rebound, and other programs focused on underserved communities.
  • Assess the effectiveness of diversity programs using data analysis, feedback, and assessment tools, working collaboratively with the Director to make informed, data- driven decisions for program enhancement.
  • Provide regular reports and updates to leadership on the progress and impact of diversity outreach and program development efforts. 

Diversity Outreach and Recruitment:

  • The Diversity Outreach Counselor will plan awareness events to educate the community on higher education access of opportunities and will travel to schools in community hubs to provide outreach and recruitment with an intense focus on outreach to underserved communities.
  • Monitor and analyze recruitment data to assess the effectiveness of diversity outreach initiatives and identify areas for improvement.
  • Stay informed through higher education literature and research regarding recruitment and institutional policies and procedures. Focusing specifically on culturally-relevant literature and research that can be used to inform best practices in student programming.
  • Provides pre-admission advising and support for students, families, and other external constituents from assigned special programs or populations.
  • Collaborate with the Director to design and implement recruitment campaigns that resonate with diverse communities, ensuring inclusivity in messaging and materials.
  • Lead efforts to increase awareness of the university's commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion through various communication channels. 

OREP:

  • Participates in all OREP and divisional staff development, staff meetings, and major staff events to promote the University.
  • Conducts testing of systems utilized by OREP (e.g., Cal State Apply application, Slate information/communication system, etc.)
  • Adheres to laws and policies established regarding computer data, records, accounting, and personnel by the California State University, Cal Poly Pomona, and OREP to demonstrate sensitivity and appropriate conduct as a University employee.
  • Adheres to and advises prospective students properly regarding CSU admission policies.
  • Prepares and utilizes outreach reports detailing application, admit, and enrollment trends, and analyzes prospective student inquiries to determine yield strategies.
  • Performs administrative and programmatic duties as assigned, including providing generalist support at the department service desk and telephones.
  • Works extended hours, weekends, and evenings to support OREP programs and services.
  • Rotates on a needed basis to perform customer service duties and support the front- facing counter of OREP, as determined by OREP leadership and/or operational need.
  • Ensures compliance and maintains the integrity of prospective student, applicant, and student records; staff members are strictly prohibited from making unauthorized changes without explicit HEERA permission.
  • Other duties as assigned.

 

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Equivalent to graduation from a four-year college or university in one of the behavioral sciences, public or business administration or a job‑related field. Additional specialized experience during which the applicant has acquired and successfully applied the knowledge and abilities shown above may be substituted for the required education on a year‑for‑year basis.
  • Two years of professional experience in one of the student services program areas or in a related field; experience should give evidence of competence and indicate the potential for further growth. A master’s degree in a job‑related field may be substituted for one year of the professional experience.
  • Working knowledge of the practices, procedures and activities of the program to which assigned; general knowledge of the methods and problems of organizational and program management. General knowledge of research and interview techniques; and of the principles of individual and group behavior. Ability to interpret and apply program rules and regulations; use initiative and resourcefulness in planning work assignments and in implementing long-range program improvements; obtain factual and interpretative information through interviews; reason logically; collect, compile, analyze and evaluate data and make verbal or written presentations based on these data; advise students individually and in groups on routine matters where required; recognize multicultural, multisexed and multi‑aged value systems and work accordingly; establish and maintain cooperative working relationships with faculty, CSU administrators, student organizations, private and public agencies and others in committee work, and student advising and community contacts; and, rapidly acquire a general knowledge of the overall operation, functions and programs of the campus to which assigned. Demonstrated ability to make decisions and carry through actions having implications with regard to other program or service areas Services Office. 

 

PREFERRED EXPERIENCE: 

  • Ability to develop and deliver training and education workshops.
  • Documented experience developing and coordinating programs and events
  • Success working on teams and supporting colleagues on collaborative initiatives.
  • Knowledge, sensitivity, and understanding of the social, political, personal, and cross-cultural needs of underrepresented students.
  • Ability to effectively administer and coordinate a variety of concurrent and ongoing activities.
  • Ability to interact professionally, effectively, and collaborate with diverse constituencies.
  • Possesses leadership qualities such as: proactiveness, vision, being a self-starter, positivity and creativity.
  • Willingness to work irregular hours, including evenings and weekends, with advance notice.

CSU Classification Salary Range

This position is part of the Academic Professionals of California (APC) bargaining unit - 4. The CSU Salary Schedule is located on the following site: https://www.calstate.edu/csu-system/careers/compensation/Pages/salary-schedule-documents.aspx. The classification salary range for this position according to the respective skill level is: minimum $4,610 and maximum $6,556 per month. Please refer to the anticipated hiring range for the appropriate salary rate for this particular position.
