THE DEPARTMENT:

Innovation (Al), a part of the Office of Student Success, Equity, and Innovation in the Division of Academic Affairs, has as its primary goal to foster and advance a culture of innovation in teaching and learning at Cal Poly Pomona. Al curates experiential learning opportunities for the campus community and is responsible for the strategic, tactical, and operational oversight of the Center for Community Engagement, the Kellogg Honors College, the Student Innovation Idea Lab, the Office of Undergraduate Research, the Learn Through Discovery Initiative, NSF CPP I-Corps site program, the Digital Credentialling and Badging Initiative, and present and future institutional-level innovation initiatives. Academic Innovation is responsible for advancing and promoting a vision of innovative education in support of the Cal Poly Pomona strategic plan and academic master plan; guiding faculty and staff development in knowledge and skills necessary for advancing a culture of innovation in learning; assuring the quality of activities under Academic Innovation through assessment and other evidence based decision-making practices; and seeking external funding opportunities that will support a culture of innovation in teaching and learning.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Under the general direction of the AVP OAI, the OAI Admin and Tech Analyst will perform the full range of administrative and technical support to OAI efforts by developing and maintaining the technology-related infrastructure that support OAI and OAI- related units.
  • The incumbent will develop, maintain, and advance a digital credentialing and badging system at Cal Poly Pomona in collaboration with the divisions of Academic Affairs, Student Affairs, Administrative Affairs, University Advancement, and Information Technology, and external partners
  • Implement Badgr platform in support of the digital badging and credentialing initiative, including monitoring and implementing new features of Badgr to enhance platform functionality and user experience, contributing to the overall success of the digital badging initiative.
  • Implement integrations between Badger and other platforms such as Canvas LMS and other learning platforms for the users of integrated platforms and educational stakeholders in order to streamline work flows, ensuring seamless integration of educational tools and enhancing the efficiency of administrative processes.
  • Apply extensive knowledge of Badgr terminology and the open badges ecosystem to facilitate effective communication and understanding within the team, ensuring the successful implementation of open badges initiatives for faculty, staff, stakeholders, and users engaging with Badgr.
  • Collaborate with open-source implementations and repositories and contribute to ongoing projects, fostering collaboration and innovation within the open-source software community.
  • Document solutions, information needs, and archive data and work processes to create a comprehensive and accessible repository of information, facilitating knowledge transfer and informed decision-making for future users and stakeholders.
  • Investigate problem areas in computer systems and conduct thorough testing to identify and resolve system issues, ensuring the reliability and performance of computer systems for Development and QA teams, end-users.
  • Analyze processes and recommend changes to accommodate edge cases to enhance operational efficiency and adaptability, ensuring processes can handle diverse scenarios.
  • Optimize for human-centric efficiency to maximize integration between various services to improve user experience and streamline operations, maximizing the benefits of service integration for users and stakeholders utilizing integrated services.
  • Apply basic understanding of software patterns and best practices to ensure the development and implementation of software align with industry best practices, promoting code quality and maintainability.
  • Demonstrate a basic understanding of API services, web requests, and various formats to enable effective communication between systems, ensuring compatibility and data interchangeability.
  • Utilize data processing techniques involving file formats such as CSV to efficiently handle and process data in a format conducive to analysis and reporting.
  • Apply knowledge of data flows and flow control logical techniques to ensure logical and efficient data flow, improving the reliability and predictability of processes for the development teams and stakeholders.
  • Apply knowledge of Microsoft Power Automate and implement relevant processes to streamline and automate work flows, improving overall process efficiency and reducing manual intervention for users and stakeholders utilizing automated processes.
  • Demonstrate a basic understanding of User and Web Interfaces, including Badgr applications to enhance user experience by ensuring familiarity and usability of interfaces, contributing to the success of Badgr applications for users, UX/UI teams, and stakeholders.
  • Understand software visioning and release notes, aligning with product updates to ensure smooth transitions and updates, minimizing disruptions and maximizing the benefits of new software versions.
  • Engage in extensive IT troubleshooting and collaborate with support to resolve technical issues promptly, providing effective support and maintaining the optimal functioning of systems for end-users.
  • The incumbent will build and update web page structure and content for OAI and consult on webpage development and maintenance for OAI units and staff.
  • Implement forms, pages and other interactive features to the websites. Create training materials, documentation and conducting general administrative tasks.
  • Create and maintain a website for the a project and content. Maintain and updatethe website as required.
  • Responsible for interactive components that require coordination with the university’s Information Technology department.
  • Collaborate with the communication specialist, graphic designers, and program coordinators to ensure that the information presented on the websites are current, accurate, visually pleasing, and user-friendly.
  • Support OAI institutional efforts to foster and advance a culture of innovation in teaching and learning at Cal Poly Pomona
  • Support the design and implementation of current and future innovation initiatives including the micro-Internship initiative, PolyX Hub initiative, etc.
  • Support OAI and OAI units in the deployment of innovation programing across the institution.
  • Create and implement programs that guide faculty, staff, and student development in knowledge and skills necessary to successfully deploy innovation initiatives including trainings, institutes, and workshops.
  • Provide direct consultative support and training to students, staff, and faculty on information technology-based systems that support OAI and OAI unit initiatives primarily in the areas of applications software, multimedia, database resources, and network support, which may include a moderate degree of hardware consultation and support.
  • Design and implement the assessment and evaluation of student learning and other evidence-based decision-making practices to assure the quality of programs under OAI.
  • Assist faculty and staff in their efforts to obtain external funding to create and maintain a culture of innovation in teaching and learning. Serve on university-wide committees as necessary in support of the strategic purpose of OAI.
  • Support the directors of the present and future OAI units (Career Center, CCE, II, KHC, OUR, SIIL) in deploying innovative initiatives including identifying, understanding, and adhering to various policies, procedures and regulations pertaining to new programs that will be developed in Academic Innovation.
  • Support the administrative staff of present and future OAI units including training on new policies and procedures about new programs and initiatives that will be developed in OAI, and assisting with work direction in relation to these newly developed programs
  • Collaborate with and support multiple institutional units including Academic Affairs, Student Affairs, Administrative Affairs, University Advancement, and IT to design, implement and evaluate innovation initiatives including, but not limited to, the micro internship initiative, digital credentialing and badging initiative, PolyX initiatiitve, etc.; and manage external and internal stakeholder relationships including with vendors of products/services associated with the innovation initiatives.
  • Collaborate with strategic communication to design, implement, and evaluate marketing strategies to support the institutionalization of new and existing OAI initiatives including social media marketing and marketing collateral, managing the websites associated with the new initiatives, managing the social medial handles, and assessing the marketing strategy for effectiveness and impact.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Combination - Bachelor's degree AND/OR the equivalent training and administrative work experience involving study, analysis, and/or evaluation leading to the development or improvement of administrative policies, procedures, practices, or programs,
  • Four (4) years of related experience 
  • DL NUMBER - Driver License, Valid and in State Valid CA Driver's license with insurance.
  • Thorough knowledge of and ability to apply extensive expertise to complex programs and/or administrative specialties, including pertinent laws and regulations; demonstrated expertise in and advanced knowledge of the principles, problems, and methods of public and business administration and operational and fiscal management; expertise in administrative survey techniques, operations and systems analysis, statistical and research methods, and the ability to interpret and evaluate results to develop sound conclusions and recommend new or revised policies. Ability to understand problems from a broad, interactive perspective and discern applicable underlying principles to conceive of and develop strategic solutions; ability to work with representatives from public and private entities and handle potentially sensitive situations; demonstrated consultative skills in working with internal and external constituent groups; ability to effectively present ideas and concepts in written or presentation format and use consultative and facilitation skills to gain consensus; ability to train others on new skills and procedures and provide lead work direction.


PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Master's degree or equivalent is preferred; a total of five years of progressively responsible experience; and additional knowledge of software and applications related to digital credentialling and badging is desired, but not required.
  • Minimum of 5 years' experience working in the university-level environment with students, faculty, staff, administrators; project management experience; event planning experience
  • 5 years' administrative work experience; demonstrated ability to work closely with alumni and the external community
  • Demonstrated knowledge of Cal Poly Pomona academic and administrative policies and procedures
  • Demonstrated ability to lead and work closely with staff and student assistants; and demonstrated ability to work across departments, colleges and multiple organizational units on a university campus.

CSU Classification Salary Range

This position is part of the CSUEU bargaining unit 9. The CSU Classification Standards for this position are located on the CSU Classification Standards website. The CSU Salary Schedule is located on the CSU Salary Schedule website. The classification salary range for this position according to the respective skill level is: minimum $5,537 and maximum $10,014 per month. Please refer to the anticipated hiring range for the appropriate salary rate for this particular position.

University Driving Requirement

Positions that require driving for university business by using a personal or state vehicle must comply with the Authorized University Driver Policy. Driving records are monitored and evaluated by the Risk Management Department. The Risk Management Department evaluates a good driving report based on the following criteria. The driver must: 1. Have a valid California or other State Driver’s license. 2. Have no more than 3 motor vehicle violations or been the cause of 3 accidents in a 12-month period (or any combination of 3 thereof) 3. Not have more than 3 DMV Points, if their license is Class C or, 4. Not have more than 5 DMV Points, if their license is Class A, B, or C with endorsements.
