California State Polytechnic University, Pomona, invites applications for one tenure-track faculty positions in the Electromechanical Engineering Technology Department. Cal Poly Pomona is one of three polytechnic universities in the 22-campus California State University system and among 12 such institutions nationwide. Student Population. Cal Poly Pomona is the number one polytechnic university in the nation for student diversity and economic mobility. College of Engineering:

Electromechanical Engineering Technology Department:

The Electromechanical Engineering Technology Department strives to be a leader in polytechnic education, where hands-on learning is the foundation of a broad-based educational experience. The success of our undergraduate programs results from the solid curriculum that incorporates theory and practice in a learning-centered environment. Students are provided with opportunities to apply their knowledge in hands-on projects, collaborate with faculty members on projects, and participate in valuable internships and service-learning programs.

The Electromechanical Engineering Technology Department in the College of Engineering at California State Polytechnic University, Pomona (Cal Poly Pomona) invites applications for tenure-track positions at the rank of Assistant Professor to begin fall 2026. Candidate’s specializations in Mechanical/Electromechanical are especially welcomed to apply.

 

The Position: The faculty member will be required to be able to teach undergraduate classes in all areas of the Electromechanical Engineering Technology curriculum as needed. The primary areas of expertise desired include electromechanical systems, or fluids and thermal systems. The position requires excellence in teaching and advising, professional and scholarly achievements, and a commitment to service to the university. The successful candidate will demonstrate excellent teaching, research projects, written and oral communication skill. Applicants whose work incorporates a global perspective and a commitment to diversity in higher education are particularly encouraged to apply.

 

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Ph.D. in mechanical/electromechanical/electrical engineering or closely related field from an accredited university by August 1, 2026
  • Ability to teach undergraduate courses in Electromechanical Engineering Technology Department
  • Demonstrated commitment to inclusivity and equity.
  • A commitment to the practical mission of the Electromechanical Engineering Technology Department
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills

 

Preferred/Desired Qualifications:

  • Additional professional experience and teaching experience.
  • Preferable expertise: fluids and thermal systems with experience in computational fluid dynamics and engineering
  • Experience in semiconductor workforce development will be given additional preference
  • Ability to conduct applied research and develop industry contacts.
  • Commitment to the practical application of engineering principles.
  • Ability to demonstrate excellent teaching, and develop and support Electromechanical Engineering Technology laboratories.
  • Demonstrated ability to be responsive to the educational equity goals of the university and its increasing ethnic and international character.
  • Demonstration of ability to contribute to the diversity and excellence of the academic community through research, teaching and/or service, and of commitment to teaching and working in a multicultural environment.

  1. A cover letter (limit to 2 pages) that describes the candidates teaching and research experience and interests that addresses the duties and qualifications articulated in this position description.
  2. A curriculum vitae with at least three or more individual contact references: (a) names, (b) titles, (c) addresses (d) telephone numbers.
  3. Statement of teaching philosophy (up to two pages) specifically addressing the applied nature of Electromechanical Engineering Technology.
  4. Statement of research philosophy and how it would be applied to enrich teaching within our curriculum (limit to 2 pages each).
  5. First, refer to the Cal Poly Pomona online catalog for the list of Electromechanical Engineering Department courses for our BS Program. See: https://catalog.cpp.edu/preview_entity.php?catoid=65&ent_oid=5460&returnto=5344. Then prepare, from the list of courses in the Cal Poly Pomona catalog, three lists: (a) courses the candidate is prepared to teach with minimal preparation, (b) courses they can teach with some additional preparation, and (c) new courses they would like to develop for the Department. While the emphasis is on the Electromechanical Systems Program, also include courses from the Electronic Systems Program.
  6. Unofficial transcripts showing the highest degree earned.
  7. The names, titles, addresses, and telephone numbers of at least three individuals who can serve as references and speak to the candidate’s potential for success in this position.

Finalists for the position will: 

  • be required to provide official transcripts for the highest degree before the on-campus interview; 
  • be required to provide three letters of reference dated within the last two years; 
  • Final candidates being interviewed are expected to make a presentation of creative work and a teaching demonstration to faculty and interact with students.

Salary range for an Academic Year Appointment: $110,160 - $112,356

Background Check: A background check (including a criminal records check) must be satisfactorily completed.  Offers of employment are conditional and may be rescinded if the background check reveals disqualifying information, and/or it is discovered that the candidate knowingly withheld or falsified information.  Failure to satisfactorily complete the background check may affect the continued employment of a current CSU employee who was conditionally offered the position.
