
Job Summary:
The mission of the California State University, San Bernardino’s (CSUSB) Career Center is to empower students and recent alumni to develop a lifelong skill set for an ever-changing labor market through exploration, programming, and experiential learning opportunities to meet their personal and professional goals. Organized under the Division of Student Affairs, the Career Center takes pride in enhancing each student’s college experience by bridging the gap between CSUSB students and employment opportunities. The candidate for this position will act as a peer ambassador by representing the Career Center and providing meaningful support and resources to the student body.
About the position
The Career Center Coyote Career Ambassadors - student assistants serve as peer-to-peer mentors and bring campus-wide awareness of how to become career-ready by utilizing career development services and supporting college-specific programming/student needs such as resume and cover letter development, job and internship search strategies, career/internship fairs, mock interviews, and professional development workshops.
Coyote Career Ambassadors - student assistant contribute to the Career Center's mission by modeling professionalism and serving as a resource to students, faculty, staff, and employers.
Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
Under direct supervision, duties include but not limited to, Administrative and Operational Support:
- Provide excellent customer service to employers, faculty, staff, and students
- Serve as a first point of contact by answering inquiries in person and via phone
- Assist Career Center staff with day-to-day projects and errands
- Utilize an electric cart to transport equipment to Career Center events
- Answer employer questions, providing information on upcoming career events
- Provide Career Center assistance in campus events (i.e., providing resources, tabling, and attending campus-wide events)
- Prepare laptops, iPads, and giveaways for presentations and tabling events
Basic Peer Advising, Outreach and Events
- Conduct Career Center resume and cover letter drop-in services for students
- Provide information on Career Center programs and services
- Assist students and employers during events
- Promote and encourage students to engage in the career development process by providing information on programs, an overview of Career Center services, academic departments, and student organizations.
- Deliver classroom and club/organization presentations to promote the Career Center and its mission.
- Update and maintain social media posts regarding career-related events, workshops, and information sessions.
- Assist students, staff, and employers during events
- Assist students and alumni with Handshake, including but not limited to scheduling appointments and conducting searches for various employment options
- Utilize programs such as Navigate and Coyote Connections to assist students, alumni, and Career Center Staff in the creation of appointments, signature events, and drop-in hours
- Provide general assistance related to Career Center services, such as Handshake, Big Interview, and scheduling appointments.
Student Development
- Attend scheduled weekly student worker development sessions
- Complete assigned training and projects
Minimum Qualifications: Required Education and Experience
- Ability to learn and perform assigned work; follow oral instructions; work cooperatively with faculty, staff, and other students; communicate effectively with all levels; and read and write English at a level appropriate to the position.
- Special Qualification: Admission or registration as a CSU student.
Required Qualifications
- Maintain a 2.0 G.P.A. or greater per semester and cumulative.
- Students must be enrolled in at least halftime units at CSUSB (6 units undergraduate; 3 units graduate)
- International students must have full-time enrollment at CSUSB. (12 units undergraduate; 6 units graduate)
- Eligible to work in the United States
- Payroll Requirement: Social Security Card
Preferred Qualifications
- Federal Work-Study eligible status students are preferred but not required
- Avid knowledge and experience in all Adobe Creative Suite programs and Canva
- Time management skills and ability to meet deadlines
- File and data organizational skills
- Attention to detail
- Attend work shifts on time and allow adequate notification for coverage when unable to attend a work shift
- Possess and maintain a professional appearance, demeanor, and work area
- Ability to productively work independently and as part of a group
- Students selected must be available to work during regular business hours and according to the office's needs
- Receive and provide feedback
- Flexibility to learn new skills, styles, and modes to satisfy each project's goals and creative vision and the Career Center overall.
- Available to work 10-20 hours per week, with a two-semester commitment
Compensation and Benefits:
Student Employment Anticipated Hiring Range: $16.50 per hour.
The compensation offered will consider internal equity and experience among other factors.

This is an 'On-Campus Only' position. Student Employees are not eligible to telecommute at any time.

Background Check
Satisfactory completion of a background check (including a criminal records check) may be required for student employment purposes. CSU will make a conditional offer of employment, which may be rescinded if the background check reveals disqualifying information, and/or it is discovered that the candidate knowingly withheld or falsified information. Failure to satisfactorily complete the background check when required may affect the continued employment of a current CSU employee who was conditionally offered the position.
Driver’s License Check
Possession of a valid Driver's License may be required. Employees in this position will be enrolled in the Department of Motor Vehicles (DMV) Government Employer Pull Notice Program which confirms possession of a valid driver's license and reflects driving record.
