Position Summary

Become an essential part of the Office of Housing Administration and Housing Facilities Services team, where you'll work alongside dedicated professionals and students to create a respectful, inclusive, and collaborative environment.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Moving heavy objects like equipment, furniture, and supplies.
  • Assisting with event set-up and maintaining upholstery.
  • Cleaning and maintaining hard surfaces on patio and exterior furniture.
  • Power washing assigned areas and managing trash compactors and chutes.
  • Removing construction debris, cleaning gutters, and drainage structures.
  • Hauling waste and recyclables, cleaning carpets and floors, and general floor care.
  • Supporting trades and grounds workers, the compost program, and clearing trash chutes and compactors.

Position Information

  • This is a full-time (1.0 time-base), benefits eligible permanent/probationary position.
  • This position is designated non-exempt under FLSA and is eligible for overtime compensation.
  • Standard SDSU work hours are Monday – Friday, 7:00 a.m. to 3:30 p.m., but may vary based on operational needs.
  • The individual hired into this role will work on campus at SDSU in San Diego.

Department Summary

The Division of Business and Financial Affairs is responsible for ensuring a safe, productive campus environment while providing the highest quality service in support of academic excellence through thoughtful stewardship of financial, technological, infrastructure, and human resources at San Diego State University.

The Office of Housing Administration (OHA) is a self-funded operation responsible for planning, providing, and administering housing operations, services, and facilities with over 100 employees and over 150 student assistants with an annual operating budget exceeding $145,000,000. OHA provides housing for over 8,500 students in 25 communities with over 2 million sq. ft. of residential facilities. The OHA manages the operation of residence halls, apartments, and conference and event spaces. The OHA supports the educational mission of the Residential Education Office (REO) while providing business operations for all housing-related functions in support of a quality environment to enhance the student educational experience.

Education and Experience

Licenses/Certifications Required

Valid California Driver’s License or the ability to obtain one within 10 days of hire.

Key Qualifications

  • Ability to read and write at a level appropriate to the duties of the position.
  • Ability to follow verbal and written instructions to ensure safety.
  • Ability to perform regular strenuous manual labor; and safely move and lift heavy equipment, material and supplies up to 50 pounds without assistance (in excess of 50 pounds with assistance).
  • Experience driving pickups and other automotive equipment and operating various automated machines (vacuum, buffer, power-washer, auto scrubbers, extractors, etc.) is preferred. 
  • Experience working with carpet and floor care equipment is preferred.
  • Experience working in an educational environment is preferred.

Compensation and Benefits

Starting salary upon appointment is not expected to exceed $3,864 per month. 

Salary placement is determined by the education, experience, and qualifications the candidate brings to the position, internal equity, and the hiring department’s fiscal resources.

CSU Classification Salary Range: $3,680 - $5,955 per month.
