INDUSTRIAL & MANUFACTURING ENGINEERING (IME) - Part-Time Lecturer Pool. The IME Department, College of Engineering at Cal Poly State University, San Luis Obispo is seeking applications for semester-by-semester appointments during the 2026-2027 academic year. Eligible candidates should be capable of teaching in areas of Industrial Engineering and/or Manufacturing Engineering. Topic areas include: Introduction to Industrial and Manufacturing Engineering, Technical Graphics Communication for Design and Manufacturing, Introduction to Metal Casting and Prototyping, Materials Joining, Introduction to Design and Manufacturing, Introduction to Manufacturing Processes: Metal Casting and Joining, Introduction to Modern Electronics Manufacturing, Process Improvement Fundamentals, Introduction to Enterprise Analytics and Database Systems, Intermediate Design and Manufacturing, Financial Decision Making for Engineers, Operations Research and Management, Statistical Decision-Making and Quality Control, Test Design and Analysis in Manufacturing Engineering, Fundamentals of Manufacturing Engineering, Manufacturing and Process Automation, Production Planning and Control Systems, Process and System Simulation, Facilities Design and Warehousing, Human Factors and Ergonomics in Engineering and Systems Design, Applications of Enterprise Analytics, Sales Engineering, Software Product Management, Systems Engineering, Supply Chain and Logistics Management, Product and Process Development, and Engineering Management. Candidates with extensive industry experience are encouraged to apply.

Initial rank and salary for lecturer faculty are based on professional experience and educational background and are determined by the hiring department. Most new lecturers are hired at the Lecturer A or B rank. As of July 2024, the classification salary ranges for the respective ranks are:

Lecturer A: $5,507-$6,677
Lecturer B: $6,221-$13,224
Lecturer C: $6,825-$14,523
Lecturer D: $8,593-$15,211

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS

B.S. in industrial or manufacturing engineering or a related field is required. Demonstrated experience and commitment to student-centered learning and teaching, as well as the ability to collaboratively work in multidisciplinary settings is required. Demonstrated proficiency in written and oral use of the English language is required. 

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

M.S. or Ph.D. in industrial or manufacturing engineering or a related field is preferred. Candidates with extensive industry experience are encouraged to apply. Preference will be given to those with experience in working with diverse populations and fostering a collaborative, supportive and inclusive environment.  Preference will also be given to those with relevant work experience and those who bring professional capabilities.

SPECIAL CONDITIONS

The person holding this position is considered a 'mandated reporter' under the California Child Abuse and Neglect Reporting Act and is required to comply with the requirements set forth in CSU Executive Order 1083 as a condition of employment.

Following a conditional offer of employment, a background check (including a criminal records check) must be completed satisfactorily before any candidate may start work with Cal Poly, San Luis Obispo.
