Stan State has received a CSU Chancellor’s Office AI Educational Innovations Challenge grant for Learning With and From AI: Enhancing Global Collaboration through Ethical Translation Practices in COIL.
The COIL program connects Stan State courses with partner universities worldwide, giving students opportunities to collaborate across cultures and borders. This project explores how artificial intelligence (AI) translation tools can support communication and collaboration, while also critically examining how AI reflects, distorts, or overlooks cultural meaning.
As a Student Assistant, you’ll play a key role in this innovative project: helping faculty design resources, supporting international learning activities, and joining as a co-researcher in a participatory action research (PAR) study. This is a unique chance to gain hands-on experience with AI, cross-cultural collaboration, and research — all while being paid.
- Position available on or after September 3, 2025.
- Duties include but are not limited to:
- Help create tutorials and resources on AI translation and cross-cultural collaboration
- Support faculty in planning and preparing a COIL project for Spring 2026
- Assist with implementing COIL activities in a Spring 2026 course
- Serve as a co-researcher in a participatory action research project evaluating grant-supported resources, the faculty-student learning community, and course implementation
- Participate in virtual and in-person planning meetings with faculty, project leaders, and other student assistants
- Other duties as assigned.
- Minimum Qualifications:
- Undergraduate students must have completed a minimum of 24 undergraduate units and be registered in a minimum of six (6) Fall/Spring units.
- Post-baccalaureate students in a graduate program must be registered in a minimum of four (4) Fall/Spring units.
- Enrolled in a degree program at Stan State.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Strong communication, organization, and teamwork skills.
- Open-minded, flexible, and ready to learn new things.
- Self-motivated and willing to provide and accept constructive feedback.
- Interested in working in diverse, cross-cultural settings.
- Exposure to or interest in research methods (e.g., participatory action research, qualitative, or quantitative).
- Experience with Artificial Intelligence tools.
- Must be nominated by the faculty member to whom they will provide direct support.
