The Department
The Department of Health and Sport Science is a growing, successful department at the University of Dayton, in Dayton, OH. With over 700 students across 4 undergraduate majors and one graduate dietetics program, we collectively seek to train and inspire future leaders in health, wellness and sport. Over 400 students are Health Science majors who primarily pursue graduate programs such as medicine, physician assistant, physical therapy, occupational therapy, and nursing. We are looking for an engaged, dedicated, and innovative faculty member to join our student-centered team.

The Position
This is a 9-month, tenure-track position beginning August 16, 2025. Summer teaching opportunities may be available depending on program and department needs. The ideal candidate is expected to teach in one or more areas in our core health science curriculum that covers Physiology, Anatomy, Exercise Physiology, Kinesiology, and Research Methods. Additional responsibilities include mentoring and advising undergraduate/graduate students, developing an active agenda of research and scholarship leading to publication and that ideally, engages undergraduate and graduate students, as well as other leadership and service to the program, department, school, university, and profession.

Minimum Qualifications:
  • ABD nearing completion in physiology, anatomy, exercise science, kinesiology, or related field
  • Promise of excellence in:
    • Conducting research in an area of health science
    • Teaching health science courses at the undergraduate level
  • Effective written communication skills
Preferred Qualifications:

While not everyone may meet all preferred qualifications, the ideal candidate will bring many of the following:

  • PhD in physiology, anatomy, exercise science, kinesiology, or related field
  • Successful experience in one or more of the following within the United States system of higher education:
    • Teaching experience as Instructor of Record in a lecture- or laboratory-based course.
    • Working with students in a non-classroom based capacity (e.g., laboratory, advising, mentoring, etc.)
    • Scholarly productivity including peer-reviewed publication and professional presentations
    • Serving, leading and/or collaborating within a department or broader university community.
    • Effectively engaging, teaching, mentoring, and/or advising students of socially and culturally diverse backgrounds.
  • Effective interpersonal communication skills
  • Effective oral communication skills
  • Articulated commitment to breadth of education including educating the whole person in the Marianist tradition to support inclusive excellence and the principles of diversity, equity, and inclusion and a commitment to social justice and service to the community, university and profession
