Position Summary:

The position of Human Rights Center Law School Coordinator is a 9-month administrative appointment. The annual stipend is $5,000. The responsibilities of the Coordinator position are as follows:


  • Collaborate with UD Human Rights Center to explore, initiate, and implement interdisciplinary joint initiatives, including, but not limited to, special events and speakers for undergraduate and law students; externship, scholarly, pro bono, and/or clinical opportunities for law students; and publications.


  • Provide updates to the Law School administration including the Director of Admissions and the Dean's office about human rights programming of interest to the School of Law in the HRC, across campus, and in the community at large.  


  • Monitor promotional materials concerning human rights programming at the School of Law including the availability of classes, certificates, fellowships, and pro bono opportunities connected to human right programming.


  • Work with student groups and individual students interested in human rights law including serving as faculty advisor and sponsoring independent and directed study opportunities.


  • Communicate with faculty members with interests and expertise in human rights law to foster their interest and participation in human rights programming.


  • As part of Directed Reading and/or Independent Study courses, teach and supervise law students who are providing legal research and analysis for the UD Human Rights Center on selected emerging human rights issues as they occur. The Coordinator will be involved in recruiting qualified students, selecting issues appropriate to the skills and knowledge of a law student, and providing meaningful feedback on oral and written projects.


  • Participate in the Center’s colloquia series, present their research at the Center’s Social Practice of Human Rights Conference, and identify themselves as affiliated with the Center in journal publications and conference papers during the duration of the Associates’ affiliation with the Center.


This position will be filled through a selection process led by the Associate Dean of Academic Affairs in consultation with the Human Rights Center.

Minimum Qualifications:
  • Full-time faculty member at the School of Law

  • Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively with other faculty, staff, and students

  • Ability to handle multiple tasks simultaneously

Preferred Qualifications:

While not everyone may meet all preferred qualifications, the ideal candidate will bring many of the following:

  • Prior experience working on human rights or related issues in an applied or practice-oriented context

  • Prior scholarship related to legal issues in the area of human rights or related issues
