The Opportunity
The Department of Chemistry at the University of Dayton invites applications for a benefit-eligible, tenure-track position in Physical Chemistry at the rank of Assistant Professor from candidates with the education, skills, and experience to teach undergraduate and graduate courses in physical chemistry starting on August 16, 2024. Although all candidates with research interests and experience in physical chemistry are invited to apply, candidates with a research focus in laser photochemistry and spectroscopy and/or computational chemistry are preferred. Department of Chemistry
The American Chemical Society certified Department of Chemistry at the University of Dayton is an exciting, collaborative place to work where opportunities exist with department colleagues and other colleagues from across campus. The department offers a B.A degree in chemistry; B.S. degrees in: Chemistry; Biochemistry; Medicinal and Pharmaceutical Chemistry and a growing graduate program including an accelerated Bachelors Plus Masters degree path and a M.S. in Chemistry. Recognizing the value of hands-on training opportunities, the department also supports undergraduate summer research projects where students gain experience using a wide-array of shared instrumentation. Recent instrument acquisitions include: GC/MS, UV-VIS-NIR, TGA, DSC, Bipotentiostat, and a Bruker 400 MHz NMR. For candidates with interests in laser photochemistry and spectroscopy, the department has a pulsed Nd:laser with first, second (215 millijoule per pulse, 6.5 nanosecond pulse width), third and fourth harmonic capabilities and a Nd:YAG-pumped dye laser with frequency doubler with a total actinic wavelength range of approximately 260-10,000 nm. In fall 2024, renovations are planned to start on the research laboratories and offices for tenured and tenure track faculty.

Expectations
A successful candidate is expected to actively and deeply engage in teaching, research and service. Tenure-track and tenured professors teach a 3/3 load (3 courses per semester (fall/spring). Courses may be foundational general chemistry courses for majors and non-majors, physical chemistry and/or other courses consistent with department needs and candidate interest. Successful candidates are expected to develop a high-quality, visible and externally funded research program for undergraduates and/or graduate students with work published in peer-reviewed journals. Finally, the successful candidate is expected to contribute to the vibrancy of the university environment by engaging in service at the department, college, and university levels. |
