Position Summary:

The Senior Business Manager will report to and work closely with the Associate Vice President of UDRI to streamline business processes as well as plan, manage, and execute strategic research initiatives to continuously improve the business operations of the Research Institute. The Senior Business Manager will leverage intimate knowledge of UDRI’s systems and business processes, to include the proposal and pre-award processes, contract execution, subcontracts management, sponsored research financial management, IT initiatives, hiring processes, and CDRL management. This position will work closely with UDRI leadership and staff to identify and execute operational process improvements. The Senior Business Manager will collaborate closely with the University’s Project Management Team to ensure open communication and consistent business practices across the University. This position will consult and collaborate with academic researchers and UDRI operations, administrative, business, and information technology staff to identify, prioritize, and drive process changes that allow our business processes to be lean, efficient, and responsive to internal and external customer needs. This position will be responsible for developing and executing change management plans and communication plans as well as leading the execution of these plans by advocating, influencing, and facilitating the adoption of process changes and/or new processes in the organization. The Senior Business Manager will ensure the consistency of internal processes and procedures within Business Operations and UDRI. This position will support strategic initiatives of the Vice President’s Office, hiring of positions that directly report to the Associate Vice President, and complete other duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications:

1. Bachelor's degree in a relevant field of study
2. Minimum of eight years of relevant experience
3. Experience working collaboratively on diverse, multi-faceted teams to drive desired outcomes
4. Ability to influence internal and external customers without direct authority
5. Strong written, oral, and interpersonal communication skills
6. Exceptional organizational and documentation skills
7. Ability to simultaneously manage multiple projects, including schedule, budget, and resource aspects
8. Knowledge of project management fundamentals
9. Advanced level skills with Microsoft Outlook, Excel, Word, PowerPoint (or Project), and the Adobe suite
10. Due to the requirements of our research contracts with the U.S. federal government, candidates for this position must be a U.S. citizen

Preferred Qualifications:

While not everyone may possess all of the preferred qualifications, the ideal candidate will bring many of the following:

1. Master's degree in in a relevant field of study
2. Experience with Government contracting and/or sponsored research administration
3. Strong budgeting and financial management skills
4. Ability to effectively interpret and understand business requirements
5. Business process reengineering experience
6. PMI Project Management Professional (PMP) certification
7. Demonstrated knowledge of Government contracting business operations, such as proposals, B&P, contracts, subcontract management, invoicing, CDRLs, and cost pools
