Position Summary:

UDRI is looking for an Associate Data Science Engineer to join the SPIRE group. UDRI is a national leader in scientific and engineering research, serving government, industry and nonprofit customers. UDRI contributes to the fulfillment of the University’s commitments to education, research and public service through the involvement of students, faculty and external partners. Established as the research arm of the University of Dayton in 1956, UDRI achieved $2.75 billion in cumulative sponsored research in 2020. Sponsored research for 2022 alone exceeded $220 million. UDRI is ranked first in the nation among all colleges and universities for sponsored materials research, according to the National Science Foundation.

You will contribute to a growing team responsible for cutting-edge technology and enhancing artificial intelligence (AI), autonomy and data exploitation capabilities and effectiveness. You will work in a collaborative team environment with a focus on both research innovation and software development related to AI, modeling and simulation and analytic tools (e.g., Python, PyTorch, TensorFlow).
Past experience with these topics, either academic or professional, is beneficial. However, as this is an entry level position emphasis is placed on enthusiastic, self-starting individuals that are passionate about learning and growing in this technical domain. Team members will have the flexibility to explore, learn and utilize new technologies for the betterment of the AI community.

Minimum Qualifications:

1. Bachelor's degree
2. Due to requirements of our research contracts with the U.S. federal government, candidates for this position must be a U.S. Citizen.
3. Eligibility to obtain a United States SECRET clearance (or higher) is required for ongoing employment in this position
4. Highly self-motivated
5. Experience (academic or professional) programming in Python

Preferred Qualifications:

While not everyone may possess all of the preferred qualifications, the ideal candidate will bring many of the following:

1. Master's degree (or higher) in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Computer Science or related field
2. Demonstrated, effective interpersonal skills
3. Familiarity or experience (academic or professional) with:
-- 3.1. Software and/or algorithm development in Python
-- 3.2. Artificial intelligence and/or autonomous systems
-- 3.3. Machine/deep learning techniques
-- 3.4. Natural language processing
-- 3.5. Modeling and simulation
-- 3.6. Application programming interfaces such as RestAPI, etc
-- 3.7. Containerization platforms such as Docker, etc
-- 3.8. Working in Linux environments
-- 3.9. Source code version control systems such as Git, Subversion, or similar
