Position Summary:

Are you interested in working for the University of Dayton Research Institute (UDRI), a national leader in scientific and engineering research, serving government, industry and nonprofit customers? UDRI invites qualified candidates to apply for our Distinguished Researcher in Applied Artificial Intelligence (AI) position.

The ideal candidate will have a strong background in AI/ML technologies as well as a deep understanding of Intelligence, Surveillance, and Reconnaissance (ISR) processes. As a Distinguished Researcher, you will play a critical role in shaping our organization’s AI strategy, overseeing the development and deployment of AI-driven solutions, and ensuring seamless integration with existing ISR needs.

Minimum Qualifications:

- Masters Degree in Computer Science/Engineering, specializing in Artificial Intelligence/Machine Learning (AI/ML)
- 15 years of experience working with US Air Force (USAF) & Department of Defense (DoD) customers
- Proven leadership experience managing teams & groups of researchers
- Proven experience in modeling and simulation environments
- Strong problem-solving skills and ability to work in a fast-paced environment
- Experience writing and coordinating proposals to win DoD funding
- Experience working collaboratively on diverse teams and with external partners and customers
- Due to the requirements of our research contracts with the U.S. federal government, candidates for this position must be a U.S. citizen and have the ability to obtain and maintain a security clearance

Preferred Qualifications:

While not everyone may possess all of the preferred qualifications, the ideal candidate will bring many of the following:

- PhD in Computer Science/Engineering with a specialty in AI/ML
- 20+ years of experience working with USAF & DoD customers
- Proven experience leading large (50+) groups/divisions with disparate focus areas
- Experience working within upper levels of management/government to create strategic visions for organizations
- Experience in attracting, leading and coordinating large and complex research programs in excess of $5M annually
- Experience collaborating with government, military, industry and academia partners
- Active security clearance
