| Position Summary: |
The Sustainment & Readiness sector's Advanced Manufacturing Materials group collaborates across Ohio and Georgia locations to execute materials development and engineering projects supporting additive manufacturing (AM), cold spray, coatings, and corrosion technologies. This position at UDRI's Middle Georgia (MGA) location focuses on process development, material characterization, and application engineering, supports consistency in practices and processes across locations, and provides on-site subject matter experience.
The position will be focused on metal laser powder bed fusion (PBF) and polymer fused filament fabrication (FFF) AM, cold spray repair technologies, and additive friction stir deposition. This position will assist other researchers in understanding the material science issues of advanced manufacturing and connecting material properties to part end-use requirements. This will include assisting in planning and conducting experiments, analysis and reporting, efforts related to material/process risk assessments and selection, troubleshooting, process improvement and/or material replacement, and validation of part performance vs. end-use requirements. This position may involve handling metal feedstock powders, performing metallographic sample preparation, and operating and maintaining equipment used in experiments or material characterization.
