This position is located at Eglin AFB, FL. This position is for an on-site processing technician working in the Air Force Research Laboratory’s Munitions’ Directorate, Ordnance Division, Energetic Materials Branch, Processing & Formulation Section at Eglin AFB. The position will support the technical area of Research, Development, Test, and Evaluation (RDT&E) of energetic materials and components. The position requires regular, hands-on preparation of a variety of energetic materials, formulations, and components. That preparation involves daily interaction with engineers, scientists, and technologists to faithfully advance their research, as well as the accurate recording and communication (both written and oral) of process conditions and outcomes.
Responsibilities include:
• Assisting in the planning of individual operations:
o Attending meeting where process conditions are determined.
o Building process expertise to wisely choose those conditions.
• Preparing for operations:
o Assembling molds and preparing warheads for loading.
o Setting up various casting assemblies and vacuum chambers.
o Retrieving, weighing, and re-storing chemicals and energetic materials in the recipe.
• Mixing and casting energetics:
o Operating steam-jacketed vertical mixers or double-planetary mixers.
o Casting energetics into various molds and warheads.
• Recovering from operations:
o Cleaning mixing equipment.
o Disassembling and cleaning molds, casting setups and vacuum chambers.
• Assembling completed items:
o Installing closures on warheads.
o Preparing items for packing and shipping.
• Completing process documentation.
• Assisting in basic inspection and maintenance of equipment.

Minimum Qualifications:

T2 Level:
• High School degree or equivalent
• Minimum of 3 years related work experience.
• Attention to detail and problem-solving skills.
• Ability to routinely perform physical work in hot and cold environments, lift 50 pounds, and bend / stoop / crouch for short intervals.
• Working knowledge and competency with Microsoft Office products (Excel, Teams, Word, etc.).
• Ability to work in a team of engineers and technicians.
• Ability to obtain a SECRET level security clearance.
• Due to the requirements of our research contracts with the U.S. federal government, candidates for this position must be a U.S. citizen.
T3 Level:
• High School degree or equivalent
• Minimum of 8 years related work experience.
• Excellent attention to detail and problem-solving skills.
• Ability to routinely perform physical work in hot and cold environments, lift 50 pounds, and bend / stoop / crouch for short intervals.
• Working knowledge and competency with Microsoft Office products (Excel, Teams, Word, etc.).
• Ability to work in a team of engineers and technicians.
• Ability to obtain a SECRET level security clearance.
• Due to the requirements of our research contracts with the U.S. federal government, candidates for this position must be a U.S. citizen.

Preferred Qualifications:

While not everyone may possess all of the preferred qualifications, the ideal candidate will bring many of the following:

T2 Level:
• Experience handling, processing and disposing of energetic materials.
• Experience maintaining and troubleshooting industrial and laboratory equipment.
• Active SECRET security clearance or equivalent.
T3 Level:
• Experience handling, processing and disposing of energetic materials.
• Experience maintaining and troubleshooting industrial and laboratory equipment.
• Experience formulating energetic materials.
• Active SECRET security clearance or equivalent.
