Position Summary: This coatings technician position is located at the University of Dayton Research Institute with the Materials Degradation Group's Coating Technology Team. This position concentrates on: operation and maintenance of the exposure test cabinets such as salt spray, humidity and Xenon-arc chambers for accelerated exposure testing of material; conducting material testing methods and protocols; layout of laboratory test matrices and daily schedules based upon approved test plans; maintenance and troubleshooting of exposure test cabinets and associated equipment as required; performance of other laboratory coating exposures and testing.
Minimum Qualifications:

-High School Diploma or equivalent
-Individual must be knowledgeable of techniques and equipment used in exposure testing and corrosion measurement/mitigation
-Individual must have a minimum of 3 years hands on experience with coating applications and demonstrated proficiency to perform coating removal, pretreatment and coating applications
-Must have working knowledge of various coating materials for aerospace applications
-Proficiency with Microsoft office including Excel and Word programs
-Due to the requirements of our research contracts with the U.S. federal government, candidates for this position must be a U.S. citizen

Preferred Qualifications:

While not everyone may possess all of the preferred qualifications, the ideal candidate will bring many of the following:

-Experience with military aerospace coating application on aircraft (de-painting process, pretreatment, organic coating application), qualitative interpretation of coating performance as per ASTM standard methods
-Working knowledge of various coatings test methods, techniques and equipment used to evaluate coatings and corrosion exposures (adhesion, color, gloss, evaluation for corrosion per military requirements)
-Experience with composite and metallic aircraft structure surface preparation and coating application
-Experience with ISO 17025 laboratory requirements
